    Hi Guys/Professor

Well My discus have been laying eggs, Every 2 weekds thay would lay there eggs then eat them 5 days later, This time i have noticed something different.

The Eggs seem to have hatched and are wriggling!, I beleive these are called wrigglers?

Now the problem,The wrigglers are attached to the side of my Juwel Filter, close but not to close to its inlet grid at the top, and next to it i have the Inlet for me external filter.

I also have neon/cardinal tetras in the tank and cory catfish and a small pleco as well.

Would they get sucked in? eaten?

Should i remove them from the tank? If so how do i? and can they live without there parents? Or can i remove them let them grow a little then move them back in with their parents?

Should i fill the inlets with foam?

Thanks for the help and advice guys!
I know i havnt been around for some time, works been long and id forgotten my password .

    Well done Zippy,

Its time for another tank now.
You must be doing a great job in caring for your discus.

    Hi Zippy,

Sounds like you have made progress and that the fishes look as though they may be able to raise their young successfully.

As suggested by Mattie, you definitely need a separate tank for them without all the other fishes which will eat all the babies and all these pipes will definitely lead to the babies being sucked into the filter.

It is theoretically possible to raise discus fry artificially, but it is extremely labour intensive and a specialized task, so it would be advisable to let the parents try to raise them, but then you need to give the parents their own tank.

An aquarium of the dimensions 60 cm long, 50 cm wide and 50 cm deep would be perfect with a single heater, perhaps a good sponge filter or a canister filter but with a protected inlet and spawning cone or PVC pipe would be fine, no gravel and kept spotlessly clean should do the job.

    Keep us posted on developments.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk
