    Hi @Reedfish

    Im not terribly excited about their colour range either. As I said earlier, they are decent quaility fish, but sitting here at the tip of Africa, to import fishes from Europe is a very costly excersise and I just feel therefore that all things being equal in terms of shipping costs go ( which is hectically expensive ) one can obtain far better fishes from other breeders in Germany. Dirk and I recently obtained discus from a breeder in Germany who breeds parasite-free fishes and these guys are just WOW in terms of colour, let alone the fact that they are free of worms, flagellates and flukes. At age 3 months now, these guys are huge already, just showing the advantage of having discus that are parasite-free.

    But i will start a thread at some stage of the progression of these p-f fish.

    @pHish_man,

    Must say that I prefer "traditional" Discus colours, and am not so keen on some of the modern ones.
    But I would like a nice yellow or two in my tank, which Stendker don't do.

    They have a very good reputation here in the UK. And the UK supplier has a good reputation too.

    Yes i must admit, ive come a full circle in my own discus journey and if wild discus were freely available here in SA i would certainly have them in my tanks rather than my Asian fishes. But so be it.

    They are still quite small and don't look like much.

    I will post some photos when they have grown a bit. :p

    I poped in quicky at @pHish_man on Sunday, but I was in a hurry so couldn't stay long. But I must say, that was seriously some of the nicest fish I've ever seen that you have there!

    These photos don't do the fish justice! :bigsmile:

    Thanks for all the kind words guys.

    To those of you who have seen them in person, I agree, photos just never do fish justice.

    I will be selling part of this initial group ( probably 12 fish ) but I will post a thread in the 'for sale' section when the time is right.

    @pHish_man,

    At what stage do you separate them?

    @Reedfish

    The last batch I removed them at between 3 and 4 weeks, after an initial prazi treatment with the parents at 3 weeks. This batch Im going to leave with the parents a bit longer and see what happens. These guys got their first prazi treatment on Tues ( 22days old ).

    @dash

    thanks man. This pair is almost 2 years old now and its been their first breeding season so Im happy with the way they have progressed. Even though the number of young in each batch is relatively small.

    Lets see what happens next year.

    What is the prazi treatment for?

    At what age do the fry stop eating the parent's slime and start eating food?

    I use praziquantel as a preventative treatment against gill-fluke ( seems to work for me ).

    Then i start feeding bbs from day 5 onwards as a supplement. The fry continually eat off the parents slime, and one needs to separate them only when the parents start getting annoyed by the fry. Or when one can visibly see signs of damage to the parents.
