    Low tech DIY Filters
I decided to do a DIY for low tech filters these can be modified as needed and are specifically used on nano tanks and fry boxes(pill box filter will do a diy later) due to the small space available. I tried to do the sponge filter pic in sketchup to give you guys a better view.
    Sponge filter
Take a 20mm pvc pipe and dill a row of 3 and then 2 and then 3 and then 2 holes of aprx 3mm each. This must be drilled the length of the sponge.
Place a small piece of flat plastic and glue it to the pvc pipe to seal it off this also holds it in the gravel.
Drill a 4mm hole just below the sponge and place a straight airline connecter in the hole and seal with glue.
I placed the sponge to cycle in my sump so that it is filled with bio bacteria for the new tank.
Place the sponge over the drilled holes whilst in the tank and start up the air pump.
The Sponge filter is perfect for fry tanks, nano tanks and quarantine tanks.
    Corner filter
Take any 500ml or 1l bottle cut off the bottle top end so that you have a cylinder.
Cut off 2cm from the bottom of the bottle and then 2mm in cut again this is done to ensure that the bottom piece fits of the cylinder.
Take a piece of plastic and cut a circle about 2 cm longer than the circle glue this to the cylinder this will hold the filter in the gravel.
Cut another piece of plastic the exact size of the inside of the cylinder drill a 5mm hole and 11mm hole this is to place the 4mm and the 10mm airline in and then seal them. Drill 2mm holes in this plastic to allow for air lift(this is how the filter works)
Drill holes in the top 3cm of the filter and the bottom of the bottle that was cut off earlier.
Drill a 5mm hole and 10mm hole in the bottom to allow for the airlines to fit through. Connect to pump and run.
Fill the bottom of the filter with either bioballs or ceramic rings this allows for extra beneficial bacteria to grow when the top part of filter wool is replaced.
