Very informative, where did you het the excel speadsheet from ? I was searching the other day for something very similar to the spreadsheet you use.

Being bad at math i could only find formulas how to work out dilution but nothing that can convert % fertilizer to ppm for a certain amount of volume.

I use all the other calculators like the one on rotala even have a android app that works very good. But nothing that can do math on comercial fertilizer.

Yeah I also suck at math .. that is why I used excel ...

Got one tank but after reading this ima give it a try once my tank has settled. I'm going to start my research and try and use it in conjunction with seachem complete.

Really interesting to see it done without any test kits.

LOl I forgot I shared that ... think it still holds for calculations, but try and build your own then cross check it with all the other we based calculators.

I managed to get my hands on some Osmocote from a very kind person (thanks Ferdie ) and also sourced some 00 gel capsules from a health store within walking distance of my home.
Loaded 1000 capsules with about 1 gram of Osmocote each, and placed 25 tablets in a baggie, together with a 1 gram Silica Gel desiccant to keep moisture issues at bay.
I know have enough capsules for my 11 tanks to last me about 30 years.


I have added them to various tanks, and will be taking pics every 2 weeks of one of the tanks to judge any issues or improvements.

 

Very cool ... Silica Gel is genius ... I am sure you plants will love them.

What does a big bag of osmocote cost? And where do they sell it? I could use some for some orchids and other plants I have as well including the aqaurium.

Thanks, pricy but it seems like shop bought root tabs are crazy expensive so this works out better in the end.

 

Do I buy the osmocote pro 12-14 month release one?
