    Hi folks,

Some of you may have struggled as much as I have to find decent fine to medium fine grained sand to use in your tank?

Well, I have managed to talk my way in with a supplier of fine grain pool filter sand. Well, actually I can pretty much get any grain size?

So, the sand I have available at the moment pretty much looks like fine beach sand, and is available in 25KG bags if anyone is looking?

Price is R50 a bag. I only have a few bags available, but if you are after a number of bags, then I will be able to get more, and may even be able to get for a bit cheaper?

Let me know via PM if you are interested? This is for Cape Town people only! Sorry!

    Regards
    Big G!

Sorry guys not been on much today!

I'll go and try and measure/geustimate the grain size once I get the baby to sleep!

One thing I do like about this sand though is that it has some odd larger grains mixed in too. Gives it a nice texture.

I do not know much about Malawis, having never kept them, but I keep Apistogramma dwarf cichlids in the tanks, and it is ideal for them! They happily dig and sift through this sand.

I'll get you a rough size asap!

    Regards
    G!

Ok, grain size varies between under 1mm to maybe 4mm, but is mostly between 1mm and 2mm.

    Hope that helps?

What grain size are you looking for? I have some courser gravel that is consistant, but it is around the 4mm-6mm mark! I'll have to go measure that too! hehe!

As I say, the fine sand only has a few grains of the odd sizes mixed in, and is predominantly 1-2mm grains. It looks like real beach sand to me. And as said, my Apistos seem to be having no issues with digging away in it.

    Regards
    G!

Bump! Still around 4 bags left.

I also have various other sized gravels. Around 3-4mm and 4-5mm sized grains.

And approx 10KG's of black gravel around 3-5mm grains.

I'm basically clearing out everything that I have gathered over the years!

    Regards
    G!

I'm using the sand, that I got from Big G, in my Cory tanks.
They love it, as it does not damage their barbels, like other sand.
    I recommend it.

Thanks Gert. Now I'm back from my overseas trip, I can answer any questions!

The Black gravel is the stuff that Tropical Amizon used to sell. From memory I'd say that the grain size is approx. 3mm - 5mm?

I have sandy coloured gravels ranging from 3-5mm to 5-8mm plus the above mentioned fine sand.

    PM if interested.

    Regards
    G!

The Black stuff cost R240 for 20KG's, so I'd like to recoup as much as I can back, but I'm open to sensible offers. The black Gravel is dirty, so would need a good clean before use.

    PM me an offer!

    Cheers
    G!
