hmm....so today i did a 25% water change, and decided while im at it i will swop the rocks around, so i moved their home onto the other side of the tank and put the "log" rock in the place of their previous home. I also decided to place all the other extras (plant, driftwood etc) on the side of tank where their old home is placed now.

Well i think it must be a psychological thing as they swam right into the log rock, and didnt even care less about their home that had been moved, and they have been at that side of the tank ever since, so i think they must be thinking that is the safes place in the tank, although it is the least populated area in terms of rocks, plants, driftwood etc.......very interesting.

 

i dont know dude.. if nothing else helps i would resort to adding 7 tinfoil barbs to the tank. this will coax the other fish out into the open after a week or two, but the tinfoils will grow very quickly, from 3cm to 16cm in 5 or 6 months.. then you'd have to donate them to a lfs or someone with a big enough tank... but oyu have a nice big tank, i think you could accomodate them for a long time..

i've used them to calm my bala sharks down, and having them in the tank with bala's for 6 months, the bala's are now no longer nervouse and much more sociable... even my clown loaches play in the front of the tank all of the time, even tho i've removed the tinfoils months ago...

i have to say, if you go this route, dont be surprised if your tinfoils become the centre of attention in the tank..

did you get those parrots from someone or from an lps? it seems almost as if they have been scared or harmed or something in a previous tank that is making them so very afraid..

 

@mydummyname.......I got them from a LPS. they eventually resorted to the old rock again (as i had removed the old rock for 30min, and they took about 3-4 hours before they started to hide in it again), so now i have removed it completely, and they are swimming around a bit more, i think due to the fact that the "log" rock is slightly more open than the cave they had, so i will leave it out and see how it goes. If they seem comfortable after a few weeks i will put the rock back, as they never had any rocks in the LPS in which the tanks that they were kept in, so i dont know why they would be so shy.

 

hey dude.. i dont know hey.. i do think you may just be doing to many things to the tank too often, so you not really giving them a chance to settle in.. just because they have no other choice but to swim around doesnt mean they are actually happy and not stressing, at the LPS these fish also dont have any choice but to make do with empty tanks..

i still feel that forcing a fish in the open rather than letting it feel comfortable is not the best way out..

i mean, if you were put in a glass display cage somewhere and they took away your clothes and shelter, you wouldnt have any other choice but to walk around naked, but you would still feel the cold, you just wouldnt be able to do anything about it..

in the same way, you've taken away their hidey hole and now they have no choice but to swim around in the open..

i dont know if that example makes any sense to you?

rememebr a happy fish is a healthy fish, a stressed out fish is more likely to pick up parasite and sickness..

Thanks, They do seem happy as their dorsal fins are up when they arent swimming (it was hardly up prior to this little experiment), so i guess they are happy. I will keep you updated though.
