Hi, so we are planing some catch and release in about 2 weeks time, but i want to know some info on catrols. I have a torium pen, but i aint getting it right, also have a tactics kofiekletser but doesnt get enough line on it. What Koffiekletser do you prever and a nice price, its from shore , but it should take enough line. i know everyone will say stick with the Pen but i have been throwing my butt of and only get about 20-30 m. I can throw better with the koffiekletser, Whats your opinion, otherwise ill have to do some training this weekend ......

Okuma bait runners are solid reels and well priced. I recently bought two Okuma Travertine TRB 55's and cast 100m+ with ease using a specimen rod.
They hold about 450m each of 0.25mm line and 280m of the standard 0.35mm. Very smooth action and solid performance all round, however if you are willing to invest more there are better reels out there. All depends on your budget.

Im a die-hard Daiwa fan. the SL50HS and SL30HS is not too expensive these days and it will give you years of joy.

You can't really go wrong with Shimano or Daiwa and as a budget option Okuma. I am a Shimano fan

Hey Marius, how is the adjustment for the spool set at the moment?if you are practicing tighten but not to lock......when you disengage the spool using the lever and you have a sinker at the end of the line it should from rod tip to ground without causing an overwind.Once you have that setting, practice your casting.I currently have 500m braid and 150m top line on my saltist 50H

Marius, if this is for rock and surf then as others have said I would try stick to Shimano and Daiwa if budget allows.
Do as fishcrazy says and you should be able to allow the reel to do most of the control work in the beginning, then slowly ease off on the spool tension as your confidence grows.
Daiwa and shimano both make good reelspersonallyly I'm a shimano fan, just love my torium and trinies. For a solid grinder that won't break the bank look at the stradic range (or whatever has replaced them), I have an 8000 which holds around 400m of 35lb braid, this is used folong rangege spinning and greys.

Thanks for the replys everyone, the torium i have, the guy that sold it to me said it had 400m braid and about another 400m line one, not sure if its the truth since i havnt removed the line yet. So maybe i am going to train myself and change the settings and ask again. We will be fishing in Vleesbaai and the saal, and beneke se klip and maybe klainbrak rivier if we have time. Ill take a look at the mentioned catrols but here they all said i should stick with the torium and train myself, another guy said i should get a harder vistok thats why i dont throw deeper. I adjusted the brake off but still didnt get deep but maybe my prob is that i brake too much, i thrown with the catrol about 20-30 times max, so i cant expect to throw like a winner i guess :hmmmm:

Don't feel bad. I gave up trying to cast with penn reals because everytime I cast I landed up with a birds nest!

Learn to use a Scarbourgh (KP) if you can, it will be well worth your while. I have been using these for over 50 yrs and I'll throw for distance against anyone with any modern reel, they are also cheap & easy to maintain and can take being dropped or left in the sand without any detrimental affects.

I always thought it's only guys in Natal that fish with those reels.

I saw n kofiekletser for about 400 today but can take only about 300m line, its a daiwa, maybe braid on it for more? The first few times i also got kraaineste with the pen, now i can throw in but not deep enough. I think ill get a backup kofiekletser for just incase of that kraainest
