I know that excel will kill black beard algae. I have no experience with the microbe lift.

Out of the 2 Microbe-lift is the safer/healthier option for plants and fish. But if dosed correctly Excell won't kill your fish. It will melt some of the plants though.

The reason more people use Excell is that its more available in the shops.

Guys, the gluteradehyde in the excell is what acts as an algacide. As far as I know, the microbelift does not contain this ingredient.

Excel is a great product, and the generaly consensus on this forumvis that if you dont like it, we all agree to disagree. Excel will work perfectly if sprayed directly onto bba.

Bio carbon has absolutely no other properties except to add a carbon additive to your tank. They do have their ow algacide. Whether it is effective on bba is yet to be shown.

That's a very bold statement Sean.

A lot of people on the forum use excel spraying it directly onto their BBA (via syringe) to get rid of BBA. I did it about 2 weeks ago. BBA turns purple and dies. Even @Seachem mentioned once that their product will rid BBA.

Not a bold statement at all. I dosed it in 2 tanks and afterwards, bba appeared. It's my experience, not a bold statement at all. The product works, I wasn't knocking it.

The algae was brown and turned black after doing lots off water changes.

Sean, are you talking about Excel or Bio Carbon? I have heard quite a few people complain that they got algae problems after using the Microbelift products.

I'm talking about algaway. After dosing algaway, Im getting bba. I'm not saying that the microbe lift stuff causes algae. If your water parameters are in check, you won't get algae.
