Hi jabulaAmazing tanks you have....love the discus strains.2 questions......what are the dimensions of your big discus tank....And how do those sponge filters work????? Every discus keeper seems to use those.

my discus tank is
1.6m x 0.65m x 0.70m
the sponge filters works well,as they are only extra bio filters and help with extra oxygen in tank.the tank has 2 other filters with lots of bio and filter material

 

Ahhhh, now I see....I always thought that was the only filtration.....and due to daily maintenance the tank remained clean....silly me.In terms of stocking.....how many discus do you currently have in the tank?.....it looks soo darn good!!!

im bit overstocked!
19 discus in tank.tank about 600liter
you need 40liter per discus,but mine doing good,and their growth rate is very good to!

 

Hi jabula tanks are great what size pump do you use in your internal sump on your 280l tank. Mine is similar. And is this the only filtration

ek het n hondjie vir oktober maand,en ek sal n mooi foto neem vir fish of the month!
Maar die fishtank of the month sal ek los vir die mense wat daai stunning planted tanks het!

in the 280l tank ive got a 1000 lph pump in,but I use the valve so that the pump does not suck my filter dry!i added 1 sponge filter to my planted tank,hide it behind some java fern

On the big tank i use a 800 lph pump,filter inlet is ontop,so any stronger pump there sucks the filter dry!

Cool I have got a 2000p/h powerhead I want to use with my internal sump but I need to redrill mine cause it has been drilled for a external sump. Did you do your own internal sump for your 280 liter tank if so please advise.

no someone in PE builded the tanks for me!
There is only holes drilled for the intake of the water into the filter!
No holes on outlet,just bended pipe from pump over the glass of filter into tank.

 

How does your internal sump work do you just have a pump at the bottom and then it pumps out to the top. How does your compartments work and how many compartments do you have. Is your water clarity always very clear. What media do you have in your sump.

 

my water clarity in my planted tank is 110%
in my discus tank it is not that good.
In the 280l the filter have 4 compartments.
First 1 is were water come in at botom,flow over into second compartment wich is filled with filter wool.
Then it goes past wool into 3rd compartment with about 4 to 5 liter of ceramic rings into next compartment where pump is and pump it into tank again!
In my big tank its almost the same,except there is 3 compartments,water come in ontop and not like my other tank where it comes in on bottom!
Big tank first compartment filter wool,second compartment water runs into ceramic rings then matrix and then purigen into last compartment where pump is!
I change filter wool once every 10 to 14 days!
