Friend selling Discus

Greetings.

A friend of mine is getting a large tank from a guy. I'm going to help him with setup, and stocking etc. At the moment that tank holds 4 Discus (no idea on size, variants, colours.) I haven't seen them at all. Since I'm not allowed to post ads on someones behalf, I'm wondering what I should do?

This guy is FAR from keeping Discus and I don't have time to care for someone else's fish. Apparently they are worth around R2000, but I suspect the guy might come down on the price. If someone here would like to have them, or can tell me about a LFS who will take them for a display tank or something just let me know as neither of my friends are on TASA.

Also, where are they currently located?

 

I don't have any pics of them, I'll try to get some tomorrow. I'm not sure exactly where they are but its somewhere near Wonderboom or PTA North. I'll call the guy tomorrow and find out exactly where, how much etc.

 

Yeah, with pics I think a lot of people might be interested. I was just thinking of looking for a few more to add to my current 6, but they would have to be specific colours.

 

Guys just be careful when adding a new discus to an igsisting setup.

Hi guys, I'll try to get some pics today. The guy has classes till just after lunchtime.

 

Little update.
The 4 Discus will be available for collection in the Montana area on Sunday.
I still need to get pics, prices and a time from the guy. I'll keep you guys updated.

At the moment @leeban is first in the que with a quick pm, then @ROEKSTE (if interested), @Flash then @PsyXe.

 

So the Discus are 3 orange and 1 Turqoise (spelling??), about 8-10cm.
The story is: We just moved the tank to my friend's place along with the 4 Discus. They were in a poly box for about 2 hours while we moved and setup the tank. They are now back in the tank with the lights off. The original owner said I should leave them there for around a week to watch them closely. I wanted to get them to a better place asap which is why I wanted to sell them tomorrow.

What do you Discus keepers think I should do? They are very stressed at the moment so white spot is a real threat. Because of this a can't go asking R2000 for them, so what would you guys be prepared to pay for 4 stressed, otherwise healthy Discus?

 

Hi. Did you match the water to the original water they came from? Also, what temp are you keeping them at.

 

We did match the temps all through the transport. They are currently in 32 degrees in the 500L tank with 2 Cories and a Sailfin.

Just called my friend and they are all still fine and swimming around.
I have no idea what price to ask for them though. They are really beautifull and healthy, as I said just a little stressed.

Highest offer can take them and collect whenever you want. Its in the montana area near kolonnade.

 

@leeban is not taking them so @ROEKSTE is first in the que, then @Flash and @PsyXe.

No offence Heinrich, but i would feel bad for accepting money for any of those fish... they could improve but the pigeon blood in the second pic is severely stunted.

 

I also wanted to give them to someone but the guy who now owns the tank is a bit of a chancer so he wants cash for them. How could you tell its stunted btw?

Do you think someone would be willing to pick them up if I gave them for free or would nobody want them in the first place? I can't take care of them because I just don't have the experience or knowledge relating to Discus.

 

You can tell it is stunted by the size of the eye relative to the body. I dont know, they need some care from someone that knows a bit about discus, but a person like that would not want them, so it is a problem.

 

I wouldn't mind the Turq if it's healthy, but I'd feel bad for the other guys (but not bad enough to spend tank space on PBs. Personal taste, sorry!) If by some chance you find someone who wants the PBs but not the Turq, let me know how much you want for him.

As I said I don't know Discus too well. Wouldn't the others be ok without the turq?

 

Hey @HeinrichLourens, they really like to be in groups of 6 or more. I think 3 is a particularly bad number for them, and the smallest one will be bullied. Ideally you'd find someone who already has discus to take them, or someone who wants to start with discus and who will get more from another source to get the number up to at least 6. I do know someone who might be a good candidate, I'll PM you her email. Again, I'd be very happy if you could get someone to only take the PBs so I could get the Turq
