    or leave Gauteng ?

seriously though I don't know how much this will effect us... how many LFS do you see now still stocking BL species
and there isn't quite border posts coming into the province

will I stop buying fish from other hobbyists ... naa ... then again how many people pay etolls or tv licences or traffic fines or declare everything at customs or copy/download music ...

I spose the question is how will the LFS handle this

Yeah, I think you're right. I suspect: a) the LFSs won't do anything different
    b) the authorities didn't even have aquarium fish in mind when coming up with this (whatever they did have in mind, if anything, we'll never know) and also won't do anything.

If I'm wrong, KZN is a pretty place and has the sea. Just have to convince my entire family we have to move!
Oh, and, if ever a case is brought against a hobbyist, I'd think we should collect funds and help them. But I don't think that will ever happen.

We went on holiday to Umdloti in January. I could really picture myself living there. I have never felt that way about Cape Town, though. I like a sea you can swim in :D

    Hey guys

Panic not too much, this has not yet gone through the full process of being passed into law and may well be revised anyway according to my understanding of the process and procedures involved. Also, it was not "meant" to affect artificial water bodies like aquariums, or at least that was the word received. Its difficult to figure out how any proposed permit system would work anyway as the Department this falls under is, by their own admission, short of the staff needed to monitor compliance.
The norms and standards, and all restricted lists have not been drawn up yet either, and as I understand it, this is an ongoing process too. There are many interested and affected parties involved in the public participation process, I wonder why the pet trader/LFS/whatever association has not updated you guys yet?

Remember the e-toll stuff up in Gauteng? Same government, so could be the same procedure taken with this passing into law. Remember the story by G Orwell. Animal Farm. That what the pigs wanted they got. Stuff the rest. AS long as the pigs are happy.... Four legs good two legs b.... bad or better?

    Good morning forum me members

Please follow the link to the latest draft of the legislation. We have 30 days to submit any further thoughts.

From a provisional first reading of the document, and with my admittedly limited grasp of legalese it certainly appears that an effort has been made to address our concerns in this draft. It all boils down to what is on the list the minister must issue (I think).
