Glo Fish

Well.. ironically after posting what I said, I saw on Facebook one with hugely long fins being posted!!!

I will try find that link, its crazy!!

 

As @MariaS said its not the genetically modified ones but rather all the what I like to call poor imitations or cheap Chinese clones that we are reffering too in the hobby. Or possibly they come from other places as well, not as genetically modified but as some sort of method of not even necessarily glowing but rather weird luminous colours that just would not be natural in the wild.

I am by no means at all an expert on fish genetics or biology but I would imagine as already mentioned above in the thread that it just doesn't seem natural to have such outrages colours in the wild in real life. Specifically in fresh water species.

LOL I think if I ever went fishing on a river or dam somewhere and stared pulling out fish that "glow" or are luminous, I am going to get as far away from that body of water as possible.

Exactly what I thought. The whole idea is to create a natural environment for our fish. It will look insane having replicated the best natural look in an aquarium with neon green fish swimming around. That's just my opinion, each for them self I guess

 

On the matter of Glofish Zebra Danios dying I have seen these fish in Aquarium Stores in Joburg. What I often see are fish that have been raised in overcrowded facilities and fish that are malnourished. This is an issue that Aquarium stores need to take up with suppliers and suppliers need to stop getting fish from farms that are poorly run. Where I have seen and purchased well bred stock I have not had a problem with them.
