I wish LFS in Cape Town would sell live foods. I tried hatching BS a while back with little success.

Just get aquarium salt and a salinity meter. Prepare your water so that your water reads 1.025. Then place it in an ice cream container (after you have eaten all the ice cream) and place this in an east/north facing window sill. Add some bs eggs and a few days later you have bbs ready to be fed to fry. I find my bs last about 2 weeks feeding once a day.

So these are the 2 BBS hatcheries I quickly nocked together on Sunday. The one on the right was stated up on Sunday night, but it has failed nothing hatched. The one on the left was started up last night so its only about 24 hours now and looks a bit more promising. But I suspect I might have dud eggs. I need to find a reliable source for eggs.

Total cost to build both around R40 in total.[IMG][IMG]

    Marine Aquarium salt will work
I dont use light as its not needed
Best to feed bbs within 24 hours after hatch as the egg yolk is the best part

Remember temperature, they hatch at 26 , too cold water will take longer to hatch and i found the hatch rate is way less at colder temperatures .

The trick is the quality of the eggs. Tried several that did not work, then got some from the Guys at Live Aquatics and they worked perfectly. Fish went mad for them, So I have now ordered and container of them so I can make regular supply. I rigged up a old skool desk lamp with a 60w reflector globe and also found a old reflector lining from a old down lighter to put inside the lamp holder for extra reflection and it is more then enough to heat the hatchery.

I used a rain gauge ..i had 3 hooked up and worked like a charm...any container that bottoms out in the bottom...upside down coke bottle etc ...when they hatch the eggs float and the brine shrimp stay at bottom...orange....put a valve in the bottom...release when ready to harvest..that way u only collect the hatched shrimp
