    You were right, I put it on a timer 15min on 15min off for the day. It survived all day then when I came home all of a sudden CLINK! and a piece of the jar broke off. I'm going to leave it as is.

    Yeah your personality created a change in the force field that highlighted the weakest spot on the hot glass, so this is the second bit of glass you have lost ? Best you start announcing your presence in-front of you tank as you approach. Give the universe a chance to buffer all that energy.
