Thanks dude. The tank doesn't look anything like that anymore. Gonna change it to a low tech tank soon. Will have another high tec tank running soon enough though. Focussing on my cube for now.

Best advice I can give is to take it slow with planted tanks. They take time to settle in. Adding Co2 and all the high tech stuff from start takes a firm understanding about plant requirements with regards to fertilizers, light levels, substrates and Co2 usage. Adding everything from the start takes alot of maintenance and also lower levels at firts to get your plants settled in. Another thing to note is with high tech tanks when things go wrong it takes alot of your time to stabilize everything again. I picked up a algae outbrake when I used EI fertz for a while. So best thing you can do is invest in test kits to monitor everything to pick up potential issues early enough to sort it out.

Best defence is to avoid a problem rather than treating it. That's the golden rule in fishkeeping as a whole.

Planted tanks really makes this hobby IMO. It's really satisfying knowing it's your hard work.

But be warned... You will have to treat the Mrs. every once in a while as this becomes an adiction.
