Hi Everyone I have been keeping fish with my dad for almost 10 years. I have recently fell in love with Cichlids and currently have a 55 gal Mbuna species tank Here's some pics. Feel free to comment - good or bad
Hello! A warm welcome to TASA! Please update your profile to give us your location - it helps us understand your water conditions.
Thanks guys! I have a Tetratec EX 1200 running. I use 6 LED lighting strips - 2 blue with 4 yellow strips. I also use 1 halogen light that is built into the tank hood. I have no real plants, so the lighting is not really an issue Here is my fish stocking: 3x Red Zebra 5x Cobalt Blue 2x Pseudotropheus Salousi 4x Unkown mbuna(blue with darker striping and yellow on the the dorsal and tail fins) 2x unknown(black with yellow hue) 2x Hillstream loach(butterfly pleco)
beautiful tank, see you also have two clown loaches. how is the temperament of the mbuna's? Always liked them but I'm too scared to put rocks in the tank. Have you ever tried auratus?
Thanks very much! The Cichlids do chase each other around every now and again, but they are much more docile than I expected. Today I noticed one of the males showing some breeding behavior, so I'm very excited to see if they will breed at some stage. I actually have 4 clown loaches and they are just the cutest. The Cichlids ignore them completely, so no issues with them Why are you scared of the rocks? If you are worried that the rocks will fall over in the tank, you can always glue or silicone them together to make it more sturdy. This is the first time I have so much rocks in my tanks, but I'm loving it, and it is so much more natural for the Cichlids. When I first started looking at the Cichlids I really disliked the Auratus, but the more I look at them, the more I like it. I really need a bigger tank to put more fish in..... Thanks I've had the fish for almost 2 months, so its really still a very new setup. The tank had 2 silver dollars and a HUGE pl*co in, and I just decided its time for a change, so I took the plunge and went for the beautiful Cichlids
Very good choice. I like Malawi's, but Iv'e never had the guts to keep them. Guess I'm a softy in that aspect. Or is that the water problem? What are you using to harden the water PH?
nice one  I'm fortunate enough that our tap water has quite a high ph, so I don't add anything to harden the water. All I use is some prime when doing water changes
