Cool man. That corner filter you have in is for that small tank of yours. So have a look they have Lots of ways to make a filter that works the same way as that corner filter. You can still keep that corner filter in with some home made filter.

If you had two in maybe with some bio media you should run it quite smoothly. Just more water changes will occur. That is if you keep at your existing stock!

Just google it. Its gonna be EXACTLY the same as your corner filter just bigger and a different shape. The flow of the air/bubbles create a suction from the bottom and out at the top.

Thanks, as @quattro said, basically the same as the corner filter, just bigger and a different shape :)

Another option is if you have an internal canister power head, you could attached that to the coke bottle, make a few holes at the bottom, fill it with filter media, and Bobs your uncle, you have an internal canister filter. You might need to make a few adjustments to the bottle neck for the power head to fit properly.

Good luck @Kieshara :) DIY is a lot of fun and rewarding at the end when it all works out. Plus you save a lot of money building your own goodies instead.

You know you could even added those sponges to your existing corner filter. But if you running both now that would be better. How is the water changes going ?

Sorry guys, some of you might not like this but I don't beat around the bush.
This must be the dumbest thread I ever read. @Kieshara, ...you clearly don't want to listen to all the good advice you received so far, ...perhaps one needs to put it a bit more bluntly.
"Huge tank" (well, @220l isn't that huge), then using a corner filter; -i wouldn't even use it on a 30l tank.
So stop farting around and sort out your filtration, your corner filter and coke bottle aren't going to cut the mustard. Somebody stated that you should look at a 500l/hr filter, then you use a pump and airstone. How much water volume do you think your pump will turn over with a few air bubbles? The pot scourers are not that bad, although some other media either 'ceramic noodles', siporax, matrix, lava rock should perhaps also be used.
So my advice is 'stop fooling around' and listen to those people who tell you to upgrade your filtration.
I have no issue with DYI, I built a number of sumps for some of my tanks but also use canisters and HOB filters.
I have 25+ tanks, on a 250l tank I use a Tetratech 1200 (1200l/hr, compare that to your 1200 air bubbles per hour) and I replaced the bioballs supplied with the canister with Matrix.

If you like coloured gravel and marbles in your tank, that is a matter of personal tase (or lack thereof) but stocking your tank with some big fish (they will eventually get there if you don't kill them first) and using a mickey mouse filter is totally irresponsible.
