Some fish are hardier than others. Not sure about angels but I've only ever lost one due to getting sucked up a filter intake

Cichlids in my expiernce are a hardy fish. Did you use any products before putting fish in to speedup the cycle? My suggestion, next purchase is a decent filtration of sorts, be it canister or even hob for your size tank. Corner filters are cute and stuff and personally use one in a low bioload small tank, but wouldn't dream of using one in your tank.

I am currently refurbishing a tank as well and it has now on the 9th day and testing the water shows it is still a long way from being ready for fish. Believe me I really would like to put fish in but I will rather wait and have fish I can enjoy for a long time rather than having to replace them because of premature death. Your fish may not die immediately but if you do not control your water conditions they will not live long and due to poor health would also be more prone to disease. I recon my tank may be ready by the end of the month but will test water to be sure.

We do understand, but that is even more reason to do research, listen to good advice and make sure you know as much as possible before spending money, and then spend wisely.

This is a long term hobby, no use trying to rush things.

    Good luck anyway.

It's not gonna kill them directly but slowly you are. Everyone is saying upgrade filters and now you want guppies and etc. Take your time let the fish cycle complete then worry about getting the fish.

Nobody wants you to have a bad experience if it can be helped that is why they are giving you the benefit of their experience. Many have learnt the hard way (including me) so all I can say is at least think about what they say. This time I read for weeks before I did anything so hopefully this time will be better than previous times. You can always learn something from others no matter how long you have been in this hobby. As you said money is tight so spend it wisely.

Good luck with your tank and may it give you much pleasure.

@Kieshara how is the tank going? What fish are in the tank? Looking at the pictures, it seems like quite a deep tank so your angels should get plenty big in that.

Saw this thread a bit late...completely agree with what's been said with regards to filtration. It is not adequate for a tank this size, specially considering the bio-load that all these will generate. Looking at the photos, it would seem as if there's only filterfloss in the filter anyway, which only serves as mechanical filtration...what are you using for biological filtration/media??

Not to make matters worse...but the rainbow sharks are aggressive/territorial towards members of their own kind as well as E.Bicolor. The bigger one of the 3 will start to harass the smaller ones when they reach adulthood to the point where the stress literally kills them. Also keep in mind they grow to about 15cm

The tank is also way too small for the clown loach, reaching adulthood at 20cm (but can still double in size if given adequate space). Also, clown loaches are actually a shoaling.

You have any other fish in there as well??

    1 x Angel, 1 x Clown Loach, 3 x Rainbow Shark

    Couple of tips...

    a) move your thermometer to one of the side panels of your tank...then it wont obstruct your view when looking at the tank, or filming like in this case

    b) when filming or photographing a tank...do so at night when ONLY the tank lights are on, all other lights in room should be off. Then you wont see your reflection in the tank as all light comes from inside, so there's no light "bouncing" off the glass causing a "mirror effect"

@Kieshara - I assume you have internet access all the time.. if your budget does not fit let's go on YouTube and look and see all DIY filter projects. There are hundreds..and at a fraction of the cost. They are all not the prettiest but some of them are really efficient.

One of the member's on another forum used a 2l coke bottle as a temporary internal canister. Fantastic idea, and it costs you absolutely nothing if you drink soft drinks.
