I have had this tank 3mx600Wx750H for the last 20 years and enjoyed it everyday. Over the years it homed arowana's,oscars, malawi's,tetra's and so on. Now the time has come for some maintance on things.

I will try and post as things goes along. So the tank has been stripped to clean and dry.

First up is the stand. Rust has moved into some place. Me and Mr. Grinder had a good day yesterday.

Are you going to re-do the tank as well - strip and re-seal the entire thing?

120kg sand being added and filling up.

So it is update time ... A lot of work has happened but it was fun.
I had the tank full with water for about a week or 2 just to make 100% sure that all the silicon work was not leaking and that all was set properly.

Added the sump to the bottom of the stand.
    DSC_0024.jpgDSC_0026.jpg

added the black stuff and BioBalls , lava rock, pump and heaters. 2x 300w Jagers and 3500lt Eheim.

    DSC_0039.jpgDSC_0040.jpg

    added sump plumbing ...
    DSC_0025.jpgDSC_0041.jpg

added a back board for all wires. Need to tidy still a bit.
    DSC_0032.jpg

I have always had problems with lights in this tank. So i have build a universal light box. I currently have 6x 14 watt energy savers in.

I did a 100% water change on this setup with a sand cleaner to take out all the "old" particles that settled during the week that the tank was standing to check for leaks.
    Before W\C

    DSC_0027.jpg

Now came the fill up again. I am lucky enough to have a borehole to fill the tank with clean, "chlorine free" water.
    After fill and all running.

    DSC_0043.jpg

    Overflow and sump running perfectly.
    DSC_0030.jpgDSC_0047.jpg

... and so the fun part starts. Added some tree's and plants but needs to wait for all the trunks to sink to start with the aquascaping.
    DSC_0055.jpg

Lights is on but the covers of the tank has not been put back.

@top dog - I am planning to get some nice tetra's, discus, pleco's, and geophagus in the tank.
@Caudelia - normal Phillips power saver you buy in checkers.
