    So I have had my Rays for a week now.

    They seem to have settled in well
    The bigger one is more or less constantly active.
    The smaller one not so much. It either tries to wedge itself under a gap in the piece of wood I have for the lungfish. Or it covers itself with sand.

    They have taken to the earthworms. Really love them.
    But I have started target feeding them. On the weekend I bought myself a pair of extra long (25cm) tweezers. And place the worms right in front of the Rays. Reason I did this is just by dropping the worms into the tank, the cichlids were intercepting loads and of them and the Rays weren't getting that many.
    I tried mussle on the weekend, but they weren't interested. Will try again a bit later. Don't want to force them by starving method yet.

    Yup, they seem to be.
    I am taking their eating as an indication. From what I have read, when they are unhappy, they stop eating.

    @Reedfish... sorry been away from the pc for a wile... I have also seen that a lot of the guy on the specialist forum keep them on bare bottom tanks and recommend that you do the same, but to me that is not natural and in my opinion looks horrible.. yes keeping them in tanks with gravel, at the time I was doing homework and research before I got mine I spoke to someone on one of those forums. he has two Motoro P01 Marble Variant ray that have had pups twice and are sitting at 22inch in a gravel bottom tank.. keeping them in gravel tanks just means good cleaning and syphoning need to be done.. its amazing to see how crazy they go for the worm.. as for getting the tweezers, good idea. it will help you a lot with target feeding, you also get to make sure they get about the same amount off food.. I find my male eats much faster than the two females.. you will notice that the min you move them over to the fish they will fill out quite quick..

    @Cesar,

    Yup, I agree. Bare bottom doesn't look great.
    My tank is in the lounge and my Mrs wouldn't be happy.
    And the gravel also gives it a more natural look.

    Also, I have a few lumps of wood in my tank.
    Mainly for the Lung to hide behind. But the Rays seem to like burrowing underneath it. Especially the smaller one. I guess it gives them a sense of security.

    How do I switch over to the fish. At this stage they don't seem too keen for it. And I am not keen to use the starvation method - these are still relatively small.

    @Reedfish... gravel is alot nice and i mist be honest mymisses would have allot to say if I went with bare bottom.. i would not worryabout i would not worry about them hiding, when i got mine the female tended tohide alot more than the male. But once they have settled you will find they outall the time.. its very seldom not that they burrow. When I do water changesthey will follow the siphon around...
    As for movingthem to fish, i started of by cutting the fish into small enough to fit intothere mouths before they got worms.. when they are hungry they quickly munch upthe fish.. for the first few times they will only eat two or three pieces. Thenyou can finnish of with worms...

    @Cesar,

    What I plan on doing this weekend is putting the fish in a contaniner with a few worms.
    Hopefully the fish will pick up the smell of the worms and fool the Rays :blink:

    But I am going away on business for a week in March.
    My aim before then is to have them on pellets. My Mrs isn't going to be fiddling with worms or fish.
    But she doesn't mind feeding dry food as she does to my other fish when I am away

    Reedfish....Soaking it with the worms could help; you could also try that with the pellets.I on the other hand was quite lucky as i got mine to eat without having to soakthe fish with the worms... another thing i do for my Ray and the two arowanasis, you get a a product called (Nourish) made by Seachem. It contains protein,amino acids and so on. What i do is in the morning when I take out the fish tothaw i pour some over the fish so that buy the evening when I feed, the fish hasabsorbed the liquid.. That way they get allot more nutrients than just the fish..
    Im quitelucky in that way, my fiancé does not mind picking up the worms or fish...

    Thanks, I will look into that Nourish.

    I also think I need to with hold a feed or two.
    May make them a bit hungrier. But they are not fully grown yet, and I am a bit reluctant to get into a battle of wills with them

    Hmm, my Mrs isn't going to be feeding worms.
    Can't really blame her :handkiss:

    The smaller of the pair, which I have been told is the femaile.

    They were not impressed when I did a water change on the weekend

    @Reedfish.... I would not starve them even when they get older. they will take the fish and pellet's when they want. just keep trying to give them that first before you give the worms. as for the water change, the more often you do it the more they get used to it. mine now chase the syphon around wile im doing water changes.

    Reedfish try the following I have been using a few years to get fish off live food and eating prepared foods.

    Feed them what they like to eat but every time you feed you turn off a pump or filter first. Back on after they ate.
    This change in noise will now signal to them it's feeding time.

    Do it for about 2-3 weeks.
    Then start adding small bits of the new stuff you want them to eat and gradually change the ratio to favour the new food.

    With time they learn that the switched off pump indicates food and they jump on anything that enter the tank at this time.
    They will even quickly swallow and spit out any food until they realize it's not that bad. :)

    Works on most fish. When the filter goes off in my tanks you can immediately see the behaviour in the fish. They start looking for food.

    I will try with the other food first.
    Last night I put a small piece of fish into the tank before the worms.
    The male swam over it, and hunched over it briefly, but didn't eat.
    The female wasn't interested.
    @Vis,
    Good idea re the filter.

    I feed when the lights are off (so the other fish don't get the worms) and use a torch to see into the tank
    When the Rays see the torch light, they already know that their food is coming and swim to the front of the tank
    So I am already implementing a "behaviour trigger"

    Have had the Rays for 3 weeks now.

    After much persistence, they finally took some cut up silver sides on the weekend.

    Yup, it does.
    I am aiming to get them on to pellets though.

    Beginning of March I am going away for business for a week, so that's my target date
