    hi all!

got a a big bag of this substrate from a friend but I'm not sure what it is or whether it would be suitable for my 30cm tank? She said it came with a tank she got 2nd-hand.

it's damp which is why it looks clumpy. when dry it's like sand (a little coarser than seaside) with smooth, roundish grains

Tank houses a Betta male and will soon have driftwood and some plants (wood is currently soaking nicely)

Looks like it could make a mean curry :)

I would guess some form of river sand but I havent seen it this colour before.

only thing I can think of is red jasper - but the grain size and smooth round grains do not fit.

ok, here's a closeup of the grains. sorry, it's not as round or fine as I thought! (the blue lines are exam pad paper for an idea of scale).

does that help with an ID?
