''Indigenous'' is a pretty broad category of fishes for South Africa. Northern KZN is basically tropical (it's where you begin to see African tetras and other typical tropicals), and where I've been up in mountain streams, barbs were very happy in 5 degree water, if not a little sluggish.

Point being that an indigenous setup will need to reflect a certain area, or habitat. Some will require a heater. Some may even need a chiller.

This is a rich topic for biotopes here, I'm trying to save for "The freshwater life of South Africa" right now and also trying to find the cheapest place for it. I need that book haha, I want to study in that area one day.

The great thing is, we have a good variety of fish here for tanks 90cm and up. I am sure there are also some nice plants here and there too. I must look through my Southern African fish book again soon :)
