Safety code on the esp is done and tested. The rest is to be done on the domotics but that integration is also done.

I don't mess with the wirjng that's hubby's department. I usually get everything needed and then dump everything in front of hubby so he does it for me lol

 

my Fishroom( double garage) was 11 degrees this morning and lounge 13 , my Jägers barely keeping both 1000L tanks stable at 20 degrees , set at 25 , they seem to struggle...

Yeah - I agree Neltf - the 300Watt was on solid for 5 hours to move from 18.00 degrees to 22 for a test - I needed the power socket but not before it reached 21.87 Degrees.



Need to get another ds18b20 ... but rest is done.


Hate doing dev with a 220 socket ... might just forget it is hot then BOOOM USB connection to PC no-more.

Pulled the entire header out via ribbon cable ... so now I can still do usb flashing if need be.

No probe in 36 degrees yet - but running the heater from domoticz - seems to be working fine.

Yep.. here too... heaters are up to 29 and tanks were sitting at 26 this morning

Does anyone use a gas heater in their lounge where there is a tank?
Just wondering if its safe... @f-fish..?

 

@MariaS my only conser with gas heaters is that they use up the oxigen in the room Which migh become an issue for people and pets in the room if there is no fresh air comming in.

@Pierré Schoonraad , that i understand and would ensure there is some ventilation.
Dont really want to run it all night, just say 2hours or so while we around to break the chill and then switch off when you go to bed.
Shouldnt be any worse than a gas stove if i do it that way?

 

Can't see a problem with that. And 2 hours isn't that long

Yeah @MariaS that's what I thought. My mother has always told me to never leave a flame unattended - she's never wanted me to use a gas heater as she says it may be too dangerous for me - yet she has a gas stove and we run our hot water from a gas water heater. When I lived in my own place many years ago, I had a gas stove so I can't fathom why she would all of a sudden stop letting me use gas in my own place.

2 hours is fine - it's like me putting my electric blanket on to warm up my bed an hour before I get into it. Then I switch off as my blankets are warm enough as it is - have never needed an heater while sleeping and the temps often drop to -5*C. Last recorded low low low temp was -17*C, I think that was last year or the year before. Had ice everywhere in the mornings and the last winter, had horrible frost for 4 weeks just before Spring.

 

Agree a few hours of gas should be fine.

The issue will be with leaving it on all night.

I have hijacked the gas heater before, but that was more for my comfort while working vs that of the fish.

The trick is to use the tanks as a heat store. So heat them during the night and then have a lower must have temp to keep / heat them at at night.

Trying that with Lucky13 ... wanna see how long it takes to drop that 21.8 degrees.

This is scary, My units I lost over this weekend was heavy. Thinking of shutting down all my tanks till summer is back. The room I'm using for all my tanks consumes allot of power if I need to heat it up and I do not have the funds to insulate this or to keep the power up and running for now. I'm saving up money still for our wedding in August this year and the wife to be will not be to happy if I have to place my hobby first.

Rather be more prepared and sort this out after the wedding.

 

Had that same feeling the first winter -- reduced all to 1 tank if memory serves. Blankets work very well for keeping the cost down.

 

I simplified my heating problem. Not needing a thermostat it seems. Pannel heater heats the room up to about 22/23 degrees, measured with a aquarium temometer. All tanks between 20 and 22. 4ft and 3ft running at 24 with own heaters although I can drop that to 22 for the winter. Now I just need a timer as I only put the heater on at night. Room temp stays constant through the day without heating.

@MariaS I also use a gas heater in my lounge without problems. In the middle of winter my power bill was around R2500 last year. I got it down to R1800 using gas to heat the lounge and in summer it's R800. My total heating in the tanks is 1800w. 5x300w and 3x100w.

 

I believe that they will work on the same basis as the no-vent fireplaces I installed. 6 hours max in use if there is no aditional ventelation from outside supplied.

What brand are you using? I have the one from Makro - nice big crack in it after one year. Not very happy about it and not sure what to do. I'm afraid to put it on and have it blow up in my face now.
