Hi guys. I saw there was a "Pleco Keepers" group so I joined that and posted in it a month ago but no chatter in there at all. I was interested to see who out there is keeping L Cats and are there any local breeders at all? The exchange rate has pushed the cost of these fish up tremendously and they are pretty hard to find, at least down in Durbs. I've got a a little colony of clowns that I'm hoping will spawn one day. Looks like I got 1 female and 3 males. I have a few other species too, like the Royal, Orinoco Angel, Butterfly and Mega Clown. Anyone else out there keeping these kinds of fish? Would be great to hear what else is out there!

Hey there. I too have picked up a "fetish" for these guys, I absolutely love them. I currently have in my collection:

    2 x Orange Seam Plecos (L106)
    2 x Amazon/Butterfly Plecos (L168)
    2 x Orinoco Angel Plecos (L201)
    ? x Bulldog Plecos (L187)
    3 x L340/LDA19 Plecos
    3 x Blue Eyed Ancistrus (L144)
    5 x Normal Ancistrus
2 x Long Finned Calico Ancistrus
4 x Long Finned Calico x Super Red Ancistrus

My other "fetish" are the Cory cats

10 x Panda Corys (My breeding colony)
    10 x Dwarf Corys (Habrosus)
    4 x "Flag" Corys (I think?)
    2 x Emerald Corys
    1 x Julii Cory
    2 x Raubalts Corys
    1 x Pepper Cory
    2/3 x Bronze Cory's
    2 x Albino Corys

Collectoritis... I have a really bad case...

I used to have a big collection of Plecs before I went the Discus route.
    Among them a L025 and a L114.

    Really like the "fancy Plecs".

I just have a L81, Golden Nugget at the moment

The common ones are reasonably priced, but the rare ones are expensive here too.

@Reedfish, I see that you like the monster L Cats, those are nothing less than 20cm in size. Stunning though I have to say.

@llewellynkearney, that's a nice collection to have. :top:Good luck in getting your Calico x Super Reds to breed. Let me know if you get it right...

I forgot to mention that I also have 2 x Long Fin Albino Ancistrus, thanks for reminding me...

    @Skye01,

I have had some of the smaller ones too Vampires, Bulldogs, Sultan etc.

Am trying to convince myself that I don't need a Zebra, but am soooooo tempted.

Atleast i don't have to feel to bad , i see there are a couple of us in this "L Cats Addiction" group .

I actually love all Cats , but there is just somthing about L Cats .......

My collection so far , i hope i remember all of them :

    5 x Normal Cories
    2 x Albino Cories
    2 x Peppered Cories
    3 x Green Cories
    1 x Panda Cory

    2 x Bumblebee Cats
    1 x Featherfin Synodontis
    1 x Spotted Synodontis
    1 x Hoplo Cat

    3 x Green Phantom Plecs
    1 x Albino Pleco
    4 x Bristlenose Plecs ( 1 Breeding Pair)
    2 X Longfin Bristlenose Plecs
    +- 15 x Candy Striped Plecs (L015)

Used to hav 2 x Golden Nugget Plecs and 2 x Royal Plecs , but they all died for some reason (Still trying to figure that one out - all the other fish in the tank survived) .

I am setting up some new tanks soon , to get more space for more cats !!!!

Where can i get hold of some more non-common Ancestrus species , ie: Madusa , Starlight , Super Red and Blue eyed , ect?

I recently got myself a L191 Panaque at a bargain price and love him/here to bits. She has the most personality in my 3ft tank. She loves to move the twigs, I have lying at the bottom of the tank, around to suit here.

@Skye01 I understand the addiction to Corries and I have to blame @DoubleDutch for this. I started with 5 Peppered but added:
    5 Adolfois
    5 Sterbai
    15 Pygmies
    4 Panda
and lastly added 7 more Dwarf Cories.

Can't control myself in my lfs

@llewellynkearney, I've got the 2 x Calico females & 4 x Calico x Super reds, but they are still fairly young, so it's going to take a while for them to get to breeding size...Sigh

@Janna57, Candy Stripe Plecos... Oohhh. If you are wanting to sell some, please let me know because I would love a couple of them, or if you manage to get them to breed please keep me in mind for some babies...

Wow guys, there are some nice collections out there! My full list looks like this :

    2 X Royal (L027)
    1 x Amazon/Butterfly (L168)
    4 x Clown (L104) - hoping to breed.
    1 x Mega Clown (L340)
    1 x Orinoco Angel (L201)
    1 x Whiptail Cat

@Janna57, so jealous of your green phantoms. I came across one once before but they wanted R1100 for it which is way out my price range!

@jabula 7749, have you had any success with breeding the L201's? I'd love to have a colony of those, they are beautiful!

Anyone know of any local breeders to get these kinds of fish from? the dollar has driven the price up quite a lot and they seem to be even more expensive down Durban side when I compare with my cousin in JHB.
