@jabula 7749, you don't happen to have any pics you could post that illustrate the difference between the male and femsle L201 do you? I've read how to sex them on planet catfish, but would love to see some pics to help.

I've managed to pic up 2 of these guys lately and I think the one I got today is female. It's about 8cm and didn't have any noticeable odontodes on the pectorals or near the gills. My other 2 seem to be hairier so this is what I'm basing my assumptions on. Hoping I got 2 males and a female.

    Hi Mattlamm

Im currently out at sea and will only be back in 2weeks time!!

I dont think I have a proper camera to take photos of that fine hair on the males.

But you can see it easily with the eye

If you bougt an 8cm one with no odontodes on the plectorals them I can bet you she is a female.
Feed them lots of frozen brine shirmp, blood worm and good quality granulates and soon you will see that she is fatter than those with odontodes!

    Good luck there!!

Awesome, thanks for the info! I have been searching online trying to find examples but haven't had any luck. I know with most plecos the males are much hairier, but have been trying to find pics of the L201 specifically to try gauge how much of a difference it is in this species. The one that I suspect is female definitely needs fattening up, so will feed them well for the next few weeks and see what happens.

    Hi all

So I have separated my baby l201 from the adults

In total there was 48 babies
Kept the 3 largest ones with the adults, and sold 10 of the bigger babies

The male is sitting on a bunch of new babies wich hatched yesterday

Looks like they spawn every 5weeks

Anyone breeding L cats in JHB who is looking to sell? Looking for L201, Gold nugget or Long fin albino or anything else interesting and on the smaller side.
