I'm going to jump in here, because I think I might have a solution for both dilemmas. The proverbial "two birds with one stone" thing. It does have one catch though, store owners will need to agree with it. What I'm thinking of is C.I.S. displays. C.I.S. stands for Customer Information System. Basically, what this is, is a display (TV, PC Monitor, LED Matrix Display etc..) that can be programmed to display all sorts of info. Anything from specials to creative and interesting info can be put on the display at any time they wish. And because it's a graphical display, pictures can be added. There exists a specific C.I.S. program, but good old PowerPoint could be used as well. Or even Windows' picture and fax viewer on presentation.

But, like I said, the catch is that store owners need to agree with and support this idea. It's obviously a major expense to set something like that up. But, if you are one of those that feel like @RoGe, then why not sponsor your local LFS/LPS? Ask them whether they would be willing to have such a system in place? And if they don't want to maintain a system like that, then ask them whether they would allow you to? Once a week, just create a new "presentation" and upload it to the display.

Sorry, I'm kinda rambling off. My head is too full of ideas. Anyways, comments on my idea? Especially bad ones. I'm always open to improvement.

Hey @WaterWalker that is a great idea,I think that it would def help if the new fishkeeper could be informed not only about blacklisted species but also those that would be wrong for a new setup ( fish that are agressive or grow too big etc, even how to cycle a tank...the basics)You may even educate the pet shop staff in the process, as they are mostly only there to sell whatever stock is in the tanks and say things like "it will grow to the size of your tank".It could also be a great way of getting more people onto forums like this where they can learn more about fish keeping, the responsible way.Make a DVD to sell to cover costs?

There are a number of data bases available with this info on: thinkfish.co.uk, seriouslyfish.com, fishbase.org, only problem I foresee is reluctance to disclose that 50% of the fish available will be too big for the average tank, e.g. Tin foils, bala's, oscars, most cichlids and so on
