Anybody have live brine shrimp or eggs? I want to breed these and raise them to adulthood so they can breed over and over.

I really need to know where I can get a micro worm culture in Durban. Please let me know.

    Regards

    TM

Hi Tankmaster. PM Prof. Dirk Bellstedt. He supplies Brine shrimp eggs at a good price. Dont know about harvesting and drying the eggs though, you can chat to him about it.

Markd, from what I know about brine shrimp, breeding them is a pain. Eggs have to harvested, dried and then hatched in saltwater. I am almost 100% sure buying eggs and hatching them is easy enough. I think they can be fed yeast and when grown make excellent food. Eggs are not cheap, expect to pay about R500 for 500gr. Bear in mind though that 500gr is an unbelievable amount of eggs. I've never heard of someone 'breeding' them as such. Buying eggs just much easier! Maybe also see what they say on the Interndt.

I once tried in a 1ft cube with lots of aeration in a marine solution feeding bakers' yeast and green pond water..... After a week, they grew to approximately 1mm and none lasted beyond 10 days.

The eggs are extremely expensive and I feed all fish fry daily for the 1st 2 weeks. Will help a lot if I can set up a culture, but don’t think its possible.

Decapsulating and hatching BS is Quite easy.
Just follow the instructions i have here.Unfortunately the vids are too large to post on TASA.

As for growing them keep in mind that BS is like any other fish in that they need waterchanges and a clean tank.
If you overfeed them they will die.
