    Hey all

Well, all the fish must go, including the marines. I thought I'd post them up here before I put them up on MASA. Perhaps just to see if, by some random chance, somebody wanted them.

    There are 4 morays:
    Snowflake moray - Echidna nebulosa
    Geometric moray - Siderea griseus
    Yelloweged moray - Gymnothorax flavimarginatus
Undulated moray - Gymnothorax undulatus (Satan sp.)

They're all roughly the same size... smallest should be at least 35cm, but Satan himself hasn't shown his full glory for a while, so he may be over 40 or 50cm. He may very well be fully grown, which would explain the screams I hear around the neighbourhood at night.

    Yes. Free.

Why? Because these guys aren't the easiest fish to keep. And I don't mean that they'll die if water parameters go off for a bit, but every time you open the lid, they'll try to escape or bite you, or both at the same time, which last time left my finger bleeding heavily.

I want to make sure that the person who takes them is really up for it - ie: free to the daring and prepared.

But otherwise they're lovely pets. If you can move your hands fast enough, they can be hand fed, and the Geometric moray will eat pellets (though not as a staple diet). Otherwise they eat squid, octopus, shrimp, prawn, fish etc. once or twice a week. They need a good water change every week or two.

At the moment they're together, with plenty of hiding places. This prevents fighting. I'm willing to give them away separately or as a group. They do get along.

Oh. And they will get bigger. I've only had them for a year.

Not the most encouraging ad, but I'm trying to be honest.

PM me for details, Durban or surrounding area only. Pick up only.

Nope. They did have tankmates at one stage, but they handled those 'naturally'... Oh. But there is a starfish with them.

They can get on well with larger fish though - lionfish are probably your best bet.

They're very hardy, in fact possibly the hardiest among marine fish. What is more, they're 'immune' to a good handful of external parasites due to their outer slime coating, which is toxic to them.

I would recommend a moray if you're just starting up, and you want something interesting simuletaeneously; however, like I mentioned in my first post, I'm not prepared to ship.

Each fish is worth at least R200 each. Just saying.

Predators are not and I repeat NOT ideal starter marine fish. They require completely diffirent setups to thrive and not just stay alive.

SA I hope you come right (I saw your post on MASA) but please check who they go to in terms of experience setup etc.

If you do change your mind re shipping let me know I might be interested

It's all a matter of opinion Frans, morays in general are among the hardiest of marine species, being extrememly tolerant of not only organic wastes and pollutants but parasites as well. They're as hard as nails. Being predators has nothing to do with it - they're though and if you get the setup right I don't see why a new marine fishkeeper shouldn't give them a try.

    @Gareth - I've replied to your PM.
