I'm thinking more along the lines of a heated outdoor pond (already under construction)

i think you are talking about the 50 000gallon tank Khalid, it took 7 days to fill the tank up, and one year for the green algae bloom to disappear!!! it is a huge tank...

It'll be more along the lines of a 'koi' pond (except not a sterile environment, i'm looking to create a functional ecosystem) with a small view window. We're currently in the design phase with a local pond builder and are going to be incorporating it into our landscaping of our garden.

We are investigating stocking it with only local indigenous species but this will require a number of permits. If this falls through then we were thinking of stocking it with some of the more unusual fish groups.

Once we begin construction I will be documenting it and posting it in a dedicated thread for all to see.

You'd have to be careful with that one Kiazer... rays are very sensitive to changes in water parameters, and also to buliding up of pollution. In an outdoor pond the risk is somewhat greater...

What makes matters worse is that the hardiest of the freshwater rays is illegal here, leaving you with the giants of group, all of which is very, very fragile creatures.

Good luck for it though, I'm not saying it can't be done, but I'm saying do it properly the first time, otherwise it'll be a very costly mistake

Thanks Salmon! when it comes closer to the time of stocking I will do some extensive research into all my options. Don't want to go down the road of spending tons of money on fish which are not suited to the environment I am creating.
