@Chris M: Thanks saw the opportunity too increase my filtration rate and bought the canister. Doing about a 1500 litres per hour for a 80 litre tank, don't think I can push it higher lol!

So my Panda Corry's and Rams started spawning at the same time this morning. Not much hope for the Rams as they pretty much each batch of eggs they lay. First time that my Corry's spawned will see what happens.

My tank after it's monthly 50% water change:

I am pretty happy with myself, as the tank looks better when running lowtech than it did when I was running CO2.

Very, very nice. Are the fish with the broad dark line down their sides the Kerri Tetras?

@ozone:Yeah pretty hard to take pictures of them because they are all over the place chasing each other here are better pictures:

Also captured them on video. Click on the gear icon right hand bottom corner and select video quality (720p) the video was taken in HD quality so normal Youtube quality does not do it justice:

Thanks very much. How many Cherry Barbs do you have and what is the male female mix? Which would you say have more character, the Cherries or the Kerris? I need to decide on the last fish to add to my tank, unfortunately I can only choose one species. The blue colour of the Kerris would make a nice contrast with my Harlequins but the Cherries probably have more interesting behavior.

@ozone: It would be hard for me too choose between Cherry Barbs and the Kerris I would go for the Kerris purely because they are such awesome looking fish and you don't see them too often in tanks or in pet shops. I had 8 Cherry Barbs 5 male 4 female, but all the females jumped out of the tank before I built a cover so I am stuck with 5 males. But they aren't really aggressive towards each other the flare and chase but nothing too bad.

@ozone: No problem, a school of Cherry Barbs or Kerri would be amazing since everyone always use neon tetras which I think are overrated fish.

Theoretically I could add 8 cherry barbs or 12 Kerris but I would probably go slightly more conservative. Alternatively I could have 4 Cherries and 6 Kerris, but then the schools are probably a bit small. Apparently both are shy fish. Anyway, thanks for your advice.

Played with different filter media in both my filters and I think the results speak for themselves:

Photos are great. I just tried taking some shots with the Canon 500D and I must say I suck...
Will try to take s few photo's when the monitor is off and when I can dump the room in 100% darkness...
Will also try a off camera flash

This is the filter material I swear by and use in all my filters, nice and thick I can cut it into shapes and I can clean it out multiple times before I need to replace it. Also fine enough to catch those smaller particles:

I still need to get to a shop that sells batting. Stood with a filterwool bag in my hand and thought... Why should I pay R90-00 for a less than a kg bag of filter wool???

@fhmarais: It happens hey usually they have stickers on the tank when fish are sick and they refuse to sell them to customers until they are better. One must have slipped through.
