My new black Dragon plakats and yellow crown tail females

The fry are doing well. I counted 20 of them. They are still not showing colour yet.

 

I counted 15 fry today. I wonder If the rest died or simply hide so well that we cannot see it.
One of the fry started to show colour! It is a faint red or black. I am still not sure. The are about about 1.5 cm long. They may seem smaller because they are not all showing colour

 

Cleaned the tank . There are 19 fry!

 

I end up with only 3 fry. The got white spot twice and a lot did not make it. But these 3 are doing well. An interesting thing. They all have red in their fins. I think I have a male and two females. The one female has a nice even red on her fins with a balck lining. The other have red patches all over their fins. But they are really beautiful and I will breed with them as soon as possible.
It is quite difficult taking pics for they would not hold still!

 

Hi @Rooivlerkie from 19 fry to only 3? You say they got whitespot twice? You are most defenitely doing something wrong to triger whitespot twice, I currently have a spawn of about 300 + fry about 3 weeks old, I have not lost 1 fry! Your fish are either stressed out because of water conditions, feeding, or temperature, if you dont get this right you will never be able to be successfull in raising a good batch of fry.

DOoyou age your water, or use a water conditioner? How often and what do you feed them? What temp do you keep them @?

 

Hi, My 2 HMPK black dragon fry are still surviving, growing not in length but in body width. I have now dedicated my one section on my big bedroom to set-up all my fish tanks. My buddy donated me a stand which holds 4 x 1.2m tanks, I have now dediced to build lower tanks which I saw at Altum's warehouse. Once all my tanks are set-up properly I will start breeding again.

 

When they are free swimming I feed them microworms for the first few days. From then on I feed them brine shrimp for a few days. Then I feed them a vairity of foods. I do a water changes every second day. But from now on I will use only aged water.

 

Start with Infusoria for 2 days, then micro worms and BBS, keep your water @ 28deg, feed 2 times a day, and on weekends 3 times, age your water for nothing less then 3 days, do slow water changes, use thin air tubing for the first 3 weeks and make sure you dont have drastic water temp drops.
