    @ Hawk
cheers been planning to get a big tank for some time. im lucky that i have the space

loads of folk just dont have a spot to put a beast in

so playing a bit today took half of my noodels baged them in onion bags( clean ones that i blaged from fruit and vege ) put them in a running sump so when i get back the will have been seeded. im hopping to have a no cycle situation. what i have is four large sponge filters that are ready as we speak to add when the time comes. ill also take my tetratec 1200 and connect it, run in the sump for a week or two just to be real sure that there are no hiccups. and with a bit of prep work ill be able to add fish from the word go.
    cheers doug

Why don't you get all your filters running in your existing tank?

Well what do i have in terms of tanks i have jebo200l with trickle filter
a four foot with a three foot sump
and a three foot with a tetratec 1200 and two sponge filters
could use the media from the three foot sump and the tetratec and four sponges. the jebo has a sponge filter in it but the rest of the main filter not going to touch coz im going to leave the fish that tank. so i add my noodels 10kg to the three foot sump

Cool. Are you going to paint the stand or leave it galvanised?

not going to paint. going down the hill and buy some shutter board and ill have cupboard made. and for the top ill just put a strip to hid the water line. the shutter board comes 2.4 x 1.2 R280 each, so ill buy 2 boards. my other half will be much happier looking at the tank if it looks like furniture. so its a must!

Get marine ply rather than the normal shutter ply if you can. I think the "looking like furniture" comment is why my wife allowed me to put my 300l in the lounge :)

went to see this LPS up the road that has the open cell sponge for R300 you get a 1m x 50cm x 4cm (L W H)
would need about 4 of them = R1200.
has any one one T.A.S.A know where i can buy some of this sponge

Is the sponge for your filters? Why not try an upholstery place. They use foam. Not the same type but they might be able to point you in the right direction.

thats a good idea but you cant just chuck any old foam in your filter. what you need is open cell foam. normal foam water does not flow through it but thanks for the suggestion

ping @Altum ... he might still have some sheets

in JHB I could not find any at a fare price a few years back so I ordered it from a de site, but the euro was way less than now, so that is probably not an option for you.

Give Materials - Open Cell Foams Sondor Industries a call might get lucky

actually doing a ggl on open cell foam site:co.za lists way more site than what I remember.

    get the correct ppi

if you hover over PPI you will see pores per inch i.e. the density ..

ag sorry - the correct ppi 10 should be fine .. 30 is just to dense I would think.
