STAGE 3 FILLING MY 1082lt TANK AND SUMP

Hi Guys & Gals

I am totally exhausted only slept at 2am this morning after filling the tank and doing spot checks on the piping and connectors. Also adjusted the flow rate inlet to the sump.

Last night completed the Outlet Connection, put in 60kg Pool Filter Sand and started the fill.

Need some advice or ideas on the background and setup?? ​

My Plans is to keep some good looking predator fish; I already have the following that is crapped in my 3ft that will be the first addition to my new tank.
1x 10cm Giant Redtail Gourami
2x 18cm Clown Knife Fish
2x Burundi Frontosas
2x 10cm Tinfoil Barbs
1x 15cm Bala Shark
1x 6cm Flowerhorn
1x Banjo Catfish
1x Hifin Pleco
1x Ancistiris

I will be adding the following in months to come;
Silver Arowana
Chocolate Cichlid
Uaru/Waroo
Exotic Parrots
Jack Dempsey
and maybe a Jaguar cichlid

 

great tank, i dont envy you washing the sand i washed 40 kgs for my tank and my back was sore for a week

 

My back and legs are totally sore, hard work that pays off in the end

 

Hey Keshen - looking at your stocking list,I see an even bigger tank in your future when all of these guys reach adult size... start saving so long 'cos in this tank,you wont believe how quickly your fish are going to grow... Good luck with the build, and sore legs and back...

 

Thanks Azure, It is actually my wish list or nice to have list I really won't be able to stock all the above in one tank.

 

Not to be negative, but several of these are bad choices for future stocking, besides the issue of overstocking: those parrots, Jack Dempsey and Jaguar cichlids are all highly aggressive species which will disrupt your community to say the least. They're best kept by themselves or with other Central American species in a very large tank, where they will put up with each other's cr@p.

Hey Dude, I don’t want to rock your boat, but I would not sleep well with a 1000lt tank resting on wood, regardless of how strong you think it is, unless perhaps it’s made of Rhodesian teak sleepers !

Sure North American maple is one of the harder stronger woods, but unless your cupboard has been constructed with needing to support a ton or more of water on it, I would be extremely cautious. For what it worth I would strongly recommend that your cupboard be steel reinforced, it may not leak, bend or warp now or even several months down the line, it's patiently waiting until you least expect it...

 

Hi Trevor, I do agree with you and that is why I had the tank empied out over the weekend and had it reinforced with railway sleepers stronger than angle iron. I cannot believe the work and the time i put into this tank. I had it filled up AGAIN last night and examined the mass and structure all seems to be good and solid now.

 

Very good call and worth the hassle, sleep well now bud.

How many heaters should I ran in this tank??

 

awsome so far.what are the tank dimmesions .sorry if i missed it . I always prefer 3 300 heaters in dif parts of the sump .that way if one gos youa lways have dbl backup .I hope you follow tims advice there with the stocking sugestions.

 

Also depends on the latent heat/temp of where the tank is located I guess and how this might vary during the year and day.. whether in a cold garage or your warm sunroom/lounge. I would think that x2 300 Eihems would do the trick, x 3 might be an overkill, but perhaps the power consumption/spread for three heaters would be more effective and cost not so much more..

I am currently running a 1.8m X 600 x 700 with x 1 Eihem 300 and it seems fine. However I don't have a sump, so have positioned the heater close to the return of the FX5.

 

I initially had 2x Heaters a 300w that i had for the sump and the 200w for inside the tank, last night the 300w sump heater accidentally broke. So I have the 200w running in the tank and when i checked the Temp this morning it only increased the Temp by 1 degree (From 21 to 22 degree) bearing in mind that I only filled up the tank around 8pm last night and check the Temp around 7am this morning.

 

Yea, if you have not already I would strongly suggest going for the non Chineese brands, from my experience they are far more reliable/stable and most have an auto/safety turn off function, should they overheat/loose water..
