You want to start with at least 6 fish and let them pair up. Your tank dimensions would suit that number easily. Shellies breed like crazy so you can expect many fry down the line. As mentioned you can you dither fish to make the shellies feel safe. My shellies are all over my tank thanks to the cyprichromis I have. You could probally add another species such as a rock dweller (juli or calvus etc) in the mix too.

Ok If I coul do six then definitely that is what I am going to do
You mentioned the cyprichromis what is the full scientific name and how many of them could I keep with them. Would they not eat all the fry? But I guess that would help that it does not get over run‍♂️ Thanks so much for taking the time to reply

You could get away with more than 6 if you like.
The full name is Cyprichromis leptosoma. I don't think you tank can accommodate them long term in your tank dimensions as ideally you need a school of them.

Leps are extremely peaceful fish and make great community members.

Dithers are not a must but it really does bring some life to the upper section of the tank.

They are quite a beautiful fish but become rather large. Is there any other fish that might be compatible
I could make the tanks height a bit higher but can’t make it wider‍♂️

Got a school of Gertrudeas at Hartlands aquatics. Will send a better pic tomorrow as the lights are off. They don’t have the most amazing colouring yet but has really nice fins. Also built a stand and will be getting a school of Pygmys next week. The tank is still a work in progress but looks better. Will send more photos tomorrow.
