So, as I slowly but gradually develop a healthy case of MTS I have managed to coerce my colleagues into having a nice little nano tank in our reception area (little do they know that next there will be a 6ft in the boardroom mwuhahahaa) .

As I am me it will no doubt end up planted.. I have begun cycling today, just added a little Prime.
the Substrate is PFS at this point but I may cap it with fluorite.

My million dollar decision is: What to stock it with.

Our offices are a very bright combination of Daisy Yellow, Orange and Red. I was thinking fish to match... Nothing too high maintenance as if i am away for an extended period I don't want to be freaking out.

Ideas please kind and helpful TASA members !!!!

Guppies? Being serious here... if you can get hold of those tequila sunrise guppies, they would look stunning.
Problem is tank size, so not much you can get except small fish.

thanks Linxie, it is uber small and im used to large tanks.... I figured I would only go for 1/2 feature fish and a couple of small "dither" fish.

Ill check out the guppies, just worried about then breeding and crowding out.

Maybe a red betta ? has anyone got/seen a yellow one?

If you go the guppy route, stick to males only.

I've seen pictures of them (yellowish orangy betta's)... maybe try Moolis?

Thanks @Linxie Ill check it out, tricky to get it to Durbs though... thought maybe those yellow and red Swords ? Pineapple I think they're called.. They aren't too exciting but they are colourful and quite hardy.

That's an idea. Have no idea how big they grow though.

Those pinapple swordtails grow to about 8cm and need atleast 80lt aquarium, unfortunately. What about some cherry shrimp instead? Unless you have your heart set on fish?

The betta would be an option. You could always go blackwater (thats orange :p ) with some sparkling gouramis.

The betta would be a cool idea. can definitely get red, yellow you do get but different shades, the brighter ones are harder to come by. and i dont really see orange in a hurry but i know that you do get them. if you get a betta then you could get cherry shrimp as well. i think some apple snails would be cool too.

my personal suggestion would be TK2. those red zebra danios. a school of them would look amazing and they very hardy

With the difficulty of keeping small tanks stable, the Betta will probably be your best bet, at least it can breathe air should the tank overheat and loose most of its oxygen...mind you, a giant gourami can also breathe air, hmm....

Start with the canvas .... get the plants in. White cloud minnows since they will not require a heater if you can keep the room above 5 degrees.

    Later Ferdie

Apple snail generate a lot of waste. It could be difficult to keep the tank stable.

thanks for all the responses guys, some nice ideas.

In the end I think the Betta will be best. I did consider the danios and I do have a school of white clouds in my shrimp tank at home. I think I might so for 2 small swords which can be relocated when they grow a bit bigger.. Will add a couple of Ghost shrimp too.

Sparkling Gouramis would be great, maybe on the tanks next reincarnation. I think at this point Mr Betta wins...

thanks again for all the input ;)

theres a possibility that the betta can be kept with swords. it just depends on that particular bettas temperament and personality

I will introduce some little swords and then the Betta, ill monitor them and make sure everyone is happy. As stated earlier, if anyone appears to be struggling I have extra space at home for them..
When I was much younger I recall keeping a Betta in a very mixed community with Swords and a variety of others without any issues.

    Thanks again for the input.

This sounds great, definitely think you could include a single apple snail and a few red cherry shrimp (if you can get them). Very nice having tanks back at home that you can relocate any struggling inhabitants into.. Oh, and I think it's clear that you need another tank somewhere in the office for the sparkling gouramis ;)

Dude, do the flourite black (you won't need much), go heavy planted low tech, it'll be awesome! Keep us updated!

@RoGe, thanks bud, yeah I was keen on going with black fluorite but I couldn't wait so pfs it is, I may cap it with fluorite.... I have chucked a few plants in and everything seems to be going just fine.

Its experimental this one, if I can get all my staff in involved and keen it'll justify a step up to another, larger tank :p
I almost wish I could do a tank that wasn't planted but I just don't have it in me..

    cheers!
