One inlet and one outlet should be fine. If you decide to add smaller fish, they will mainly stay were the flow isn't going to be to strong.

22 to 25dia pipe should be fine. A 32dia pipe will make your fish much happier because the flow won't be so strong. The problem with most big tanks is that there is always a dead spot in the tank and you need to add extra circulation in that point.

Before you drill the hole, first check what pipe sizes is available in your area. Just remember that is the hole is drilled to small, it can't be redrilled to a bigger size.

@neltf, your outlet to the sump should be a 40mm hole and you should use 40mm fittings and pipes, the inlet should be large enough for the 25mm pipe back from the power head.

Yeah, I had the same thing with no one wanting to come out to my house. Same deal applies, make sure the plumbing to the sump is at least 40mm.

Yup...everybody say it's to much of a risk drilling the tank...I am thinking now...may I should just put in a return pump inside the tank to pump the water to the sump? Get the exact same one as my return pump? That will work?

NO, one will eventually pump more water than the other, even if only a little... then overnight you have flooding. Stay away from that.

The only people that might be able to help you is a glass gutting shop. The problem is that they normally only drill holes up to 32mm dia.

I had the same problem when I bought a 1200L brand new tank at a pet shop for a bargain because nobody wanted such a huge tank. I also ended up with a internal over flow filter because nobody wanted to drill a 50dia hole through 36mm thick glass

@pHish_man , don't you want to post your overflow pipe system? neltf, I think it will work perfectly for what you have as he has about the same size tanks as you.

Ah ok lol, I must say, the first time I had to build a DIY overflow I just had to take the plunge, once you start playing with it outside the tank to test you will start to understand how it works, and then adapt a bit.

With 4 oscars, Giant gourami and 2 plecos it works fine. Just make sure the bottom gap in the filter let enough water through otherwise the pump migh run dry.

You need at least 3 compartments in the onerflow filter, first compartment the filter wool, second compartment the bio rings, 3rd compartment the pump.
