I'm extremely surprised at how the other plants keep their leaves. The high humidity difnitly helps. Looking very good

There is some melting, but strangely only on the biggest plant. It's keeping it's color, not browning. (My camera is not great) I'm misting about every second day. The "real" aquatic plants are getting massive amounts of CO2 and light. I'm hoping they getting some nutrients from the puddle of soil, of course if they leaf feeders they totally unbalanced with CO2, light and no food.

Hmmm hope I do not have those worms in the tank .. they destroyed the shelf on Lucky 13 a while back.

This tank has been sealed for 6 weeks, I'm guessing the worm pupae were in the topsoil.
2 more weeks then I'm flooding, the worms better grow gills!

Next (long) weekend is Flooding Day!
So I need to get my ducks in a row. I went and got some bio media for the sump.
    • Ceramic rings (R50 for 500g)
    • Very porous ceramic balls (R90 for 500g)
    • Lava rock (R30 for 500g) - this really does not look like real lava rock, its some man made baked clay
All three come in media bags that almost perfectly fit in my sump media basket.

I like the idea of using differant forms of media in the sump. Very nice

    Nice

Not sure .. looks very similar to the LK's lava volcanic rock that I am using.

Media bags are a bonus .. are you adding batting to polish the water also?

Ja, first chamber will be mechanical media. I got enough quilt batting and polyester wool from the fabric shop to last years. Dirt cheap! Was R30 for a dustbin bag of "filter wool"

You gotta love the Chinese English on these products: "...After 1800 degrees high temperature burn department In the water quality in the activation, induced fish hair color, is a super good filter material..." (sic)

Awesome, thanks Ferdie. I was a little cautious to google "frothy lava" at work, never know what might pop up o_O

She's flooded. I ran a surface skimmer for a few hours with the sump off then did a 100% water change. Been doing 50% water changes every day for 4 days. The water is starting to clear up. I had a 800l/hr pump running the sump but it was too slow so I got a 1400l/hr and it's too fast and noisy. I think I need a 1000l DC pump.
