New Monster tank setup.

@David Kusner tank looks awesome and the viewing from both sides as a major bonus!

 

Yes it's great, i only now realize how cool it is to be able to see both sides of the tank. Something that is not always possible. Now I have such wild ideas in my mind to build some more tanks that can be viewed from both sides and have them built into the walla between our lounge and dinning room. However my wife would probably kick me out if I ever shared my wild ideas with her......dream......

Yup nerves of steel and currently the 2 of them are at each day and night. They were basically seperated for 3 weeks till i got the new tank ready and as soon as i pit them together they began. Althoigh i must say the small guy holds his own very well against the bigger one.

If I seperate them, then the big one sulks. So going to have to decide what to do with them.

Yes... I have found that separating them at that size, becomes a luck of the draw situation when you put them back together again
In your case they went back in together into a new environment which should help with the reintroduction on the one hand.. on the other hand.. now they have to establish who is boss again... and that sometimes you lucky and sometimes you eventually have to do something
I hope they sort themselves out without you having to take drastic measures

If this turns sour.. (hope not) the best is to get 5 babies and let them grow up together and pair off then, you usually ok with that pair for life

Good idea about the babies growing up together I was thinking exactly the same thing. Anyhow I will give them a couple more days and see what happens.

That's how I have always done it to be successful in them being happy together for life

Every time I tried to get two bigger ones together I landed up having to give up... maybe just my luck.

I did a bit of re-scaping and move most of the rocks up against the back of the tank and sort of divided the tank almost down the middle with a larger rock and moved some of the other items to the right of the tank where the Parrots seemed to have demarcated as their area. I did this last night.

Now this afternoon believe it or not everyone seems happier. Big Oscar is not sulking and seems to be eating now, little Oscar seems to have found his space now and the Parrots are quite happy on their side, crossing over to the Oscars side every now and again but always going back to their side.

The Oscar's are still tussling together but now its starting to look more like play than actual fighting.

Who could have guessed they didnt like the original layout. Or maybe its just my imagination.

Could also be that you now have better defined territories which they now happy with
They masters at sulking too
Glad its looking promising and hope it all comes together now

 

And finally after almost a month the tank is now almost 100% cycled and I am very happy with the outcome. Turns out I did not need the Purigen.

Are the two brats behaving now?

 

Yup they seem to have settled down now and looks like they are freinds again, a little nudge hear and their, but no more 20 minute lip locking sessions to see who can hold on for the longest.

I even threw in a bunch tetras as a distraction and some obvious live food for them, but instead they ignored them and ate my rams instead. ( i dont know how since the rams looked much bigger than what would fit in their mouths)

So the tetras look so nice and make for a nice contrast of tiny school fish against the back drop of theses other much bigger fish and so i am thinking off adding some more this weekend.

Very strange Oscars but full of personality and weirdness, I really love them so much.!!! ( They are my non furry water puppies)

Hahha.. they really do have a mind if their own...

Glad they getting on now... just watch they not still digesting the rams and then go for the tetras

 

For reasons I dont yet fully understand, they do not seem to be interested in the Tetras at all. Not sure if they possible cannot seem them due to their colour or perhaps they are ust to fast to catch, but when I observe them I can clearly see that the Oscars reactions to them is almost as if they do not exist. Anyhow this week end I will add a couple a more and see what happens.

 

And finally after 6 months I have achieved the clarity and look I origionaly wanted. Big fish make a lot off mess. Excuse the plastic plants, I am suprised they have even lasted 6 months.

Glad to see that everything is settled, and that there aren't any issues.

 

The bigger of the 2 is around 10 years old already and the slighlty snaller one about 8 years old. The older one recently turned black over half its body on both sides. He then took sick, had some type of internal issue. After the whole tank had been medicated he recovered and the one side turned back to his origional colours but the other side remains black. Strange, but thats Oscars for you. My little water puppies.
