So I had an internal filter die on me during the week and needed to replace it. Due to the space I have available in the tank a hob was the best option but due to the stuff outside the tank, tree branches don't even ask, I looked at a new internal. Got a Sobo WP-500H for a good price. Also got some small bio balls. Took out the carbon cartridge and removed the back part of the cartridge to remove the carbon and replace it with bio balls. I needed to retain the cartridge as it holds the foam pad in place. The filter is designed to have a heater installed in it, won't take anything bigger than a 50W heater, so I filled this cavity with more bio balls. Took about 250g of bio balls in the end. Was a perfect fit for the tank. Lets see how this goes.b6d8b66bb9ca6dec21bbdb24baf73976.jpgd1a872c7b0391ddd31d63b91e634a77d.jpg953f6d183b079eca5c565aa3ce9931b6.jpg03c691239d3c9a56c02f56d109beb88d.jpg

I changed the outlet to a spray bar as I wanted water moveing over the plants on the wood. Not concerned about the flow with this filter as I needed to create more biological filtration, clamed flow is 350 l/h. Flow in the tank is created with a 700 l/h powerhead filter. Although is must say I'm very happy with the flow of the unit.

Those little units look so cool, nice hack on the bio-balls and the removal of the carbon.

Wonder how the unit will do with showing of algae ... maybe natural green camouflage?

Think you have two options ... 1) low flow, use an airlift to dump the water via the intake pipe into the pot. 2) A little power head in the tank pushing the water up the intake pipe of the HOB.
