I think this comp/challenge is a brilliant idea. Most of us don't have the time or money to create the rather intimidating standard of aqua scape that is internationally acceptable. Starting small may inspire some to go bigger when they see that it's easier than they thought, so let's go for it!

Cool here is my entry .. a few weeks old but super low tech, no filtration , no aeration , LED lights and hydroton as the substrate.

Since we are now going for a scape - I'll look at maybe moving the java fern on the back right out , lets see.

@DerikPelser I think this is a great idea to try to make competitions more accessible and less daunting for beginners! We need more ideas like this! Something small and manageable with limited resources, so that it makes creativity a greater deciding factor than tons of cash, time, and experience..

Agree that a certain maximum tank volume should be set. Maybe 40litres? Is there any restriction on substrate (i.e. is ADA Aquasoil allowed?). What about making the period two months? Vis has managed to get momentum for his guppy competition that's a flipping year-long project!

I don't think I'll be taking part though, but really bummed that I won't..

It's nearly D-Day. Is this project still on @Derik Pelzer? I hope so! I reckon if we can get a minimum of 5 (10?) people participating, it would be a fun challenge.

    I am in.

Just a suggestion. Can we use one thread only for the entries. Every entry goes into its own post. The poster can use the edit function add pics or info. No replies should be allowed to keep the thread streamlined.

the problem is that you can only edit your post for an hour after submitting it.

@Derik Pelzer can take the reigns on that.

    Hi All

Been away for a bit. Work got hectic last week.
I glad to so much interest, and yea. I’m say we are still on.

I go read though the thread carefully tonight to take all ideas into consideration.
    @f-fish and @Broder

I would appreciate your help/input on this to make it a success.
    Ill PM you my email.

And maybe there is a small price as well.

All input welcome, but I think you have everything covered Derik... Low tech... Any hard scape.. Max 5 species of plants.... Longest side of tank no more than 30cm.

Entrants start a thread titled Nano Comp Entry: Name, in the Planted Tank section with a photo of the tank, empty with some of the hard scape to be used in the photograph. Update the thread as you please. Submit a before and an after pic as your last post before 1st Jan 2016. The mods can then compile all of the entrant's final 2 pics into one thread for public vote.

    Sound fair?

    So this is the rules.
    What you think?

    1. Tank Size: Up to 30cm (1 footer)
    2. Plants: Up to 5 species
    3. Hard Scape: No Limits
    4. Substrate : No Limits
    5. Co2: Not Allowed.
    6. Time Period: 1 Dec 2015 – 1 Jan 2016

A new thread will be started stating the progress and will require the following.
(Think only 1 thread should suffice, instead of all entrants doing their own thread. Easer to keep track of)

    1. Entries must contain a min 5 pictures.
    2. 1st pic: Empty tank with a ruler to verify length and other goodies going into the tank.
    3. 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] and 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] pics: Progression Pics. You are allowed to add more if you want to.
    4. Finally a verification pic like with TOTM and final Pic.

This will then be opened to the TASA public to vote in the 1[SUP]st[/SUP] few weeks of Jan 2016. @Cheetah – May I ask you to take care of this section?

I think rather put a volume constriction on the entries instead of length.

Ja, I think it would add to the interest if people used slightly different dimensions in their tanks, like longer and shallower.. But up to you guys, gonna be cool either way..

Wouldn't it be better if we could have our own threads...just named something like "nano tank entry..." With our tank name or something?

Then at least we can update our thread as much as we liked with as many pictures as we liked? Seems a bit of a waste of effort just to post 5 pics at the end of the day! :p maybe I'm just bias though cause I like taking tank pics :D

I agree with Mark, although Derik did say you can post more it you want. A single thread will become huge and without continuity I reckon. It will be easier for the mods just to get the last 2 pics from individual threads. A beginning pic and a last pic as your last post. Verification won't be necessary as the progression will be proof of authenticity.

    Ok cool.

    Agreed on the thread point.
    The dimensions should be ok.

Lets call it no longer than 1.5 foot. 45cm
