Ah the real reason for the comp ... he he he

    1) my2c .. KISS
    2) don't take it too serious
    3) don't limit on stuff but the most basic, so maybe a max volume - funny as it sounds the more limits one puts on something the more elitist it becomes
    4) support new members to encourage new ideas
    5) dec is not the busiest time on TASA or in the hobby - other than goldfish bowls
    6) be flexible - you could find that this is more suited to a sToM thing to show progress monthly for 6 months as an example.
    7) very few people have a spare tank just waiting for this comp - but they might have something that can show good progress every month over the next few months.

    Later Ferdie

    Hello All

I'm very exited about this and lets give it a go.

I have taken the requests into consideration and I say we go with this.
Remember, the main idea is to get the beginner aqua scapest interested in this.
This may also be a challenge for the experienced who only use hi-tech, to do a low tech layout.

Lets keep the tank volume at a 45l
And the rest as indicated earlier in the thread.

If possible start with an empty tank, I know there is some members out there who already have a setup that's a few week old. You are also welcome participate.

And lets call on the TASA community to help each other out.
If possible and members are close enough to each other, share those trimmings.
I know a lot of us dump more trimmings than you can actually buy for a R 100 at the pet shops.

So you are welcome to start.
    Lets call the threads

    PNC - Name E.g. PNC - Derik
    PNC = Planted Nano Comp

Comp will still close in Jan - However lets keep the threads rolling to see the long term progression.

Still to confirm, but there may be a price to kick start a planted tank at the end of this.

Can wait to see the entries.

    And remember, have F.U.N.

For the possible East London contenders, I have HC available. Also lots of emersed cobra grass.

@Broder I will take you up on the cobra grass offer...It was actually on my list of 5 plant species to add to the tank...although I was still wondering where to get it from at short notice...now I know! :p I have some Brazilian Pennywart spare if you would like some?

Also if you or anyone else in EL is planning on going with Spiderwood as a hard scape I am looking at buying a big piece and cutting a section off for the nano so will have some...erm...frags?? left to part with. Apparently spiderwood will no longer be imported as it costs too much? :O

    Nice, @DerikPelser!

Got a 1ft spare, so will give it a go.

Are we allowed to add ferts?

Can we add Moss covered driftwood? Ie from another tank?

Are we allowed to use excel?

2 months is short, especially for low tech. But would be a nice challenge.

That's a pitty @ivan. You know that you'll regret it later hey?:).

Thanks for for the offer to help. I want to grow a carpet of cobra grass on one side of the tank. What kind of substrate can I use for this? Would about 20w of fluorescent light be enough? Will get some Seachem flourish for weekly dosing. Anything else?
