pleco in pond ?

    Maybe a noob one but my neighbor wants to know if he can place a pleco in his pond for algae control
    If so I suppose only for a limited time ?
    And then I will need a big one ?

    I think it will do fine in the Summer but not the winter.

    I knew a guy that had plecs in his koi pond, but that was in Durban. I think it would be too cold in winter as Franna said

    Way to cold for them in Pretoria winters - ponds spend about 4 months of the year at 10 - 12 degrees.... Works well in summer,but consider catching him out before the 1st cold snap.... Dark fish that moves like lightning in a big dark coloured pond.... G'luck with that one....

    Leashes aside... lol, plec's aren't much good at eating algae anyways...

    Yup...1 pleco in a big ponds not going to even make a small dent in an algae problem.... A great natural way of getting rid of algae in ponds are to use Barley straw - as it breaks down it releases an enzyme that inhibits algae growth...
