Understanding that this is a forum for fishkeepers, breeders, hobbyists and the like...we would like to practice and encourage ethical and good husbandry of this hobby. Some of us may not always be able to maintain or setup specie tanks or geographical biotopes. So that being said we cannot recommend that you populate a hard water and alkali tank with a specimen that in its natural habitat is found in soft acidic water. On the flip side, what you do with your money is your business so if you intend on adding a few plecs to your tank its your choice. But for the newcomers and others on the forum its not good practice. And neither should it be said that your plecs are doing fine as they grow because we wouldnt really know. And as mentioned in the above posts you can add tropheus species (algae grazers) to curb back on the algae growth. If its uncontrollable then i suggest that you cut back on lighting duration.

Would be very helpful if you can inform as to what specie of fish you have.

Thanks @fishcrazy I fully agree. I am looking at Tangs at the moment to stock my tank... I currently have Tropheus duboise, T. morilo red, Julidochromis marlieri, Neolamprologus brichardi and a single N. tretocephalus. I got them all together with my new tank so I am still researching appropriate tank mates.

tretrocephalus........he can be a lot of trouble in your tank, the tropheus would curb back on the algae growing on your decor, and to a fair extent on your glass. The rest of the glass (which should be minimal)can be done as salmonafrica says..............ELBOW GREASE.

Whats the specs of your tank?might have a problem if pairs develop amongst the julies and the brichardis
