Very nice fish here guys, makes me miss mine...

A lot of good looking Discus, South Americans, Africans... but not too many Central American cichlids here? What about some orange chromides? Does anyone keep those?

@Ko7Ad, hi there dont know when you posted this... but that fish was a stunner, it was a Venestus... we had to get rid of him cause he was such a dominent fish that we almost never saw them... lol

 

New to the forum. Here are a few of my guys.

Apologies for the crappy cell pics, I havent had a chance to get decent pics.

The Milomo in that pic is now pushing 15cm.

That Venustus turned out to be a female and I am going for a male only set up so she had to go sadly.

 

Sadly, most of these guys are no more, thanks to jhb water and whatever the hell they are putting in my local tap water.

 

Your malawis are/were absolutely stunning!

I definitely want to get me a couple of these guys! Currently I'm enjoying my apistogramma's immensely. Stunning little fish! Great personality and parenting skills.

 

LCG what kind of malawi peacocks are those in your photos I want to get some for my tank!

Thanks LCG i really like the Jacobfreibergi Peacock and the Baenschi peacock! they look awesome! I also like the Venustus, can i keep the Venustus with the peacocks?

cichlid are awesome fish to keep but unfortunately i want to start a new themed tank and lparisi i have a peacock for sale

 

Venustus can be real bullies but in some setups your can get away with it. My brother has a huge Venustus with Peacocks.

From my experience as long as there are no females in the tank they will behave, and I dont mean only Venustus females, any Females. They will try and breed with almost any other species and when they are trying to breed they can be a real menace. So if you go for an all male setup you should be good.

My guys are still very young? dont know if anyone could tell me how old they think they could be?
and whats the best food?? what should i look for?

 

Go for Omega one Veggie. Stay away from any red protein as it will cause bloat.

Age on fish is very hard to determine as one never knows under what conditions they were raised (which would affect their growth rate).

I get the feeling you're a bit over stocked.... especially when these guys start growing out (not that they get large, but larger)

 

and how often should i feed? another owner said i should feed twice a day if i want then to grow fast?
I got the little guys for R400 for the lot over 65 fish so couldent say no!? if any body wants in durban ill get rid of a few?

 

I feed my fish 3 times a day, but twice is sufficient. Feed the amount that they will finish in about 2 minutes. More will just muck up your water.....

Also, watch your pH levels when increasing feeding. you might get a pH drop if you're not carefull, and a pH drop for malawi's is a big no no.....
