    @Big G

I was a sound engineer for 14 years, I now sell Digidesign HD for South Africa. So although you are preaching to the converted (I will be taking earplugs to all the games I watch) I hardly think that some vuvazela blown 100m away from you is going to compare to the snare drum you hear at 10m of your favorite band :) so that argument doesnt have any real value tbh. Sure if its blown in your ear you would be deaf, but then so would a lot of things :)

Windfire, the way I decided to deal with it was this. I am a rugby and cricket fan (old colonial games) but FIFA is NOT ABOUT ME. Actually as far as popularity ranks, the ICC ranks 3rd and the rugby WC comes in at like 7th. FIFA ranks number 1 and to some ppl is life and its in SA. This is a one time thing, itll never happen again so let them have their moment. Its 2 weeks (i think) out of your life, im sure you can be that forgiving to allow some peeps in this country to release their joy. (plus have you blown a vuvazela ??? its !@#$%@$# awesome :))

As for blowing a vuvazela at 3 in the morning, some peeps are inconsiderate, what can I say. Some peeps pump their tunes at 3 4 5 in the morning. Thats life. Get earplugs and itll be better :)

You need to share this planet. You dont really have a choice in the matter so figure out how to best make your life easier rather than impose sanctions on others.

Yes, I agree if its blown at 100m, but half the people blowing them feel it neccessary to blow it right down the person in front of thems ears! I've even had someone do that to me in a car! I nearly Klopped him one, and gave him a real good talking too! So, yes it does hold real value, as in the studio or on the stage, I can control where my head is in relation to the snare drum, but in a street full of people blowing these things I have no choice!

Even at 10m or so, as it was at some points of the night, it is excessively loud, and although not making me deaf, do bring forth intense headaches!

I'm all for people enjoying themselves, and having fun, but just think that people should consider those around them in the process. Especially after 11pm. I think thats reasonable?

As for ear plugs, I really can't sleep with those things in place! Then again, I really can't sleep with the sound of Vuvuzelas either! Lol!

I'm not trying to impose anything on anyone else, these are just my thoughts, but I expect others not to impose on me in the same way!

    Cheers
    G!

Ok, let me put this more simply without fudging things, can you stop them blowing a vuvazela at 3 in the morning ??? next question being, if you could, would you want to get out of bed, put on slippers, unlock the house and tell them to???

I think the answer is a BIG resounding NO :p

I know i seem cocky but I lived next to a VERY busy JHB petrol station for 6 years of my life, trust me, the vuvazela is like sweet music to my ears. There is absolutely nothing you can do about guys being unruly and loud, yeah they are inconsiderate, yeah they keep you up but you have a choice, you can either let them bother you to no end, or, you can where ear plugs (I also thought I would never sleep with ear plugs but after never sleeping due to noise pollution it seemed like a good idea).

I have been wearing ear plugs for 2 years now, bliss :)

G, you can bitch and complain and moan, it aint gonna change the fact that FIFA is here for the next few weeks. You can either be a victim or a survivor :) I choose the latter and enjoy everything that comes with the great sleep.

I know some peeps arent fair, what you gonna do? Dont get me wrong, i'm not antagonising, i'm just saying there are some times easy solutions sometimes to difficult problems :)

by the end of the world cup i thing some people will have to have vuvuzelas surgically removed......

my employees in my hospital today that live in or near the township in potch complained of NO SLEEP!!! they say that right threw the night people were driving around hooting and walking in the streets and blowing vuvuzelas.

i think fifa should have sticked to their guns and banned the bloody things from the start, some of my friends went to watch the warmup match between portugal and mozambique they say the korean team were sitting infront of them taking notes, but most of the time they had their hands on theire ears!!!

even in tiny potch it was hectic in the streets with hooting and vuvuzelas, realy i dont see the point of those destructive things.

parents should also regulate the use of vuvuzelas by their children.

Dammit i loved the opening game, but im afraid the world cup is going to last to long for my liking

Im more than willing to put my slippers on at 3am and yell a couple of swear words down the street, i live in a student flat block, and have reputation for enforcing the "law" at 3am

Hear hear carl p i did that once or twice while i stayed in res. The main thing that upsets me is my dog, shes an 18mnth lab cross who was abused and really doesnt deal with loud noises well, she gets fed in the kitchen by the back door and now wont eat there because of the noise! Im not exagerating when i say she stayed on my bed all day and i had 2 take her out and walk with her so she could make a wee. During the game she crawled onto my lap and stayed there, shivering. My animals are like my children and when they upset, like any mom i want to make it better. She's such a sweet and gentle thing i hate seeing her in such a state! Yes we got to share this world but unfortunately not many people consider the animals, if the vuvuzelas are loud to me what must it sound like from her perspective, it must sound like some horrible monster coming to get her.

And now the bad moderator comes on to tell you all off... (HEHE)

FIFA, according to a world report on CNN, were NEVER considering banning the Vuvuzela. The Vuvuzela has now started going WORLD WIDE... and I'm sorry to tell you Rugby fans and Cricket fans... the Vuvzela is infiltrating ALL SPORT. We saw this in the Rugby. Newlands had a HUGE attack by worldwide media for banning the vuvzela's at the super 14 semi's.

So get over it... the vuvuzela is going to become part of SA sport! FULL STOP!

I agree that between 11pm and 6am it is inconsiderate... but that isn't the vuvuzela's fault, that's the drunken idiot behind the vuvuzela!! I can guarantee that 99% of you people who are complaining about the vuvuzela have never sat in a statium with them going... let me tell you something... loose your preconceived ideas about it... go and experience it... it is an absolutely bl%dy awesome experience!!

FIFA have announced that there has never been such a huge drive and supporters "partying" for the soccer like there has been these last few weeks. If you not prepared to get into the party, take yourself overseas for the rest of the month... because you are not wanted here!

And as Fly has mentioned... the vuvuzela DOES NOT DAMAGE YOUR EARS if you constantly hearing it... from the otherside of the neighbourhood. That excuse is BUSTED!!! It's only directly in your ears from 1m or less for longer than 30 mins that damage starts. (So put your earplugs on at the statium!)

And Troy... you have my full permission to blow your vuvu as long, as loud, and as late as you want to on this forum....

Just back from shopping at Cresta .. they have notices all over the place banning vuvuzelas in the mall. So if things get to much - run for the malls and do some retail therapy.

If the background hum of a local kid on his vuv is to much for you at night ... move your fishtank into your room, adjust the spray bar / return to make a splashing sound and pretend you are in a rain forest with creepy things that go bump in the night.

Our dogs don't handle the noise very well either...

Yesterday someone was blowing a vuvuzela in a way that sounded like there was an elephant in severe pain nearby.

Offered to beat the kid next door with his vuvuzela if he didn't stop blowing, Jack Russell not happy . Kid just looked at me, said fine blow it again and going to get my Boerbulls to sort him out. Silence restored.

The tribe who developed and used the vuvuzela for their spiritual ceremonies must be pretty agitated by all this.

What a game at Newlands without vuvuzelas!!!!!!
Yes, it was banned, due to the French request...
Imagine having it at Wimbledon, at a tennis match, or how about Golf - with it!
I vote that it must stay with soccer and recycle it after WC to make long funnels!

Everytime i see a vuvuzela i think about the Untag movie from Leon Schuster.
I'll never put that thing to my Lips.

Oh before i forget, after the worldcup the city of Cape Town will buy all the Vuvuzelas,Apparantly they need them in the townships after the disastrous Toilet-without-walls episode!
