I've come to the conclusion that there are 2 types of people that hate vuvus: Those that have never tried to blow one, and those that can't......

    Pwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrpp!!! ;)

Never mind ear damage...my lips are in some discomfort...need more lip ice!!

    Pwaaaaaaaapaaaaaaaarrrp!!!

I've just come back from the WC Netherlands vs Denmark game... and can I tell you something.. the world cup would not be the same without them! Please guys, there is nothing more awesome than an entire stadium erupting with the vuvuzela's when the Dutch scored that second goal.

The entire STADIUM erupts. You can feel it to your bone! What an AWESOME experience.

As a "whitey" who has NEVER watched an entire soccer match, let alone shown ANY interest at all... it was an experience I will hold close in my mind for the rest of my life.

I agree, Lets keep it to the soccer stadiums for that experience, and don't act with it like a hoolegan in the middle of the night.
There is a place for everything, like fish - community-, planted- or species-tank!
It will not work with Golf or snooker etc... Like oscars and silverdollars, in a well planted tank!

knock yourselves out. As for the vuvuzela, it brings nothing to the game, what happened to people cheering and singing gees songs at games, the vuvuzela is a dumbed down one note trumpet wannabe, and useless in my opinion. It makes an annoying noise and I do not equate it wish gees. People UNITE when they cheer at the team, not when they deafen each other with a manual version of a foghorn. (Coming from someone who actually played the trumpet in highschool)

I watched a few WC games thus far, and enjoyed it, for someone who before now had never gotten into soccer. But the ONE element that I couldn't stand, was the constant vuvu sound. it brought nothing to the game, even the players and commentators want the thing banned...

Anyway. My opinion is its rubbish, other think its fun and tollerable, others love it and probably blow on it for the full 2 hours during matches... In the end, i empathise with those who cant stand it, i feel your frustration Windfire

    Tell Me something...

This happenes at every world cup we hold... we all go mad about the event and the Africa Unite and Pride and all that other crap comes out... then the event ends and the other normal crap starts again... where is Julias???

Why has no one stuck flags on thier cars and house before the event... I am proudly South African anddont want to leave the country, but the rest of the hipocrits in this country piss me of...

Take my brother for one, he want to leave SA with a sore heart cause it is BAD in SA now all of the sudden he has mirro socks and flags and stickers... HIPOCRIT... and the same for the vuvuzela blowers.

The Horn has been band in other parts of the world at sports events, so cause we give it an african name it becomes african pride, Bull guys... I have done Adverts for the last 11 years of my life now all of the sudden we are adding vuvu's in every damn advert... Why cause it is Pride...

    Lizid...

I want to leave the country as well but I will always remain a proud South African, but due to all the nonsense going on and the crime not being attended to I will look for a safer place for my family. I dont support soccer at all, as my support goes to Rugby and will remain there for the rest of my life...

Oh and the vuvu was never really part of any of our cultures, it was a money making scheme and apparently the same guy is now selling earplugs..

I remember about 20 years ago or so, people blowing brass horns in the stands amongst other musical instuments. For me the vuvu is a plastic version of this. However as everyone else, I also dont really like it, But do you blow one? It is here to stay wether you like it or not, and it will also make its way into rugby stadiums

Wimpie - I can respect that but have you plastered your car with SA Pride for the event?

as for the safety in other countries good luck, the UK has the fastest growing security companies in the world... just to name one country...

The noise is fine, times of the day do not bother me either. the one thing that does get to me it the sound itself. For heaven's sake put the cow out of its missery.

If all the plastcis dying cow blowers were to learn a actuall intrument then we would have had the biggest orchestra in the world at every game.

They could have made it sound better.

Blow if you must but just brush your teeth please, I do not want to smell the dying cow too :)

LOL, Vis! I tried the vuvuzela this weekend for the games and I must admit that thing is like a grade 2's recorder after an afternoon of practice: dripping with spit!

@vis rofl i like that analogy

im pretty hyped now will be getting away to the farm for 4 days of absolute bliss, no cel signal, no landline (the giraffe keep walking through the cable) no tv, no electricity and an outside shower so you can shower under the stars hot water in the donkey next to it. just a small radio that you can get a few stations, usually jacaranda. peace and quiet

To a large degree I agree with Lizid ... but I think it is a lost opportunity. For the first time in my life I can say I am sleeping under the - for your country and all that - SA FLAG (it was a gift) - 2m x 2.4m it is beautiful. I have not plastered my car with flags - I own one soccer beanie and no soccer shirt.

The lost opportunity is related to greed ... making of all these "pride" items could have seeded many manufacturing business - but because we have become a country that imports rather than manufactures, this has not happened. It is cheaper to import than run the risk of local manufacturing and establishing a viable business ... every time I buy something I have a serious struggle:

    1) Does the products manufacturer have a website - can I research the product?
    2) Where is it made?
    3) How many distributions hops has it taken to get to me?
    4) What is the nutritional value?

I find myself more and more going without if I am not satisfied with the resulting answers.

Now for the vuvuzela - ignoring its function or frustration caused - it has no ticks on my 4 point check list - so I do not have one to blow.

    Later Ferdie

Not sure if anyone read this:

A French cable TV channel is offering vuvuzela-free broadcasts for all World Cup matches, using frequency-separating technology to block out the drone while letting other sounds come through.

Hopefully this DOESN'T hit SA soon lol
