P. polleni are most definitely in SA. I saw them here a few years back. Retrocolus are absolutely gorgeous in the right setup! Stream-ish fish iirc.
Polleni are rare, they have the same troubles as rainbows - their species name containst "tilapia" and even though they are absolutely not, that makes some places hesitant to import them. But they are here
Polleni cichlids are available but they get super aggressive when large so they are normally brought in at a smaller size before they color up. I know a few people that have bred them and someone in kzn that breeds them regularly.
Went to the lfs this morning again for what has become my weekly outing. I felt that my air pump wasn’t powerful enough for my tank. So went to get a bigger one. They had these Fossorochromis rostratus. A not often seen Hap from Lake Malawi The males colour up nicely to a vibrant blue.
Omg I seen one yesterday and red empress which I was going to grab under normal circumstances but the whole tank was being treated for ich so I couldn't. They are both on my must have list of fish
Went to the lfs yesterday to get some frozen food. They had these Stiphodon ornatus And these Didn’t make a note of the label. They look really nice Does anyone know what they are?
Cool. They are indeed. Of the gold variants, the fire reds we've had here but not these other gold varieties. Fancy names cause identification issues. I have the very same angels in the 26 Feb post but I've been hesitant to call them red devil. Here's some bad pics of mine. Then see my gold angels, which I recently got as gold dantums but they are actually gold manacapuru, IMO.
Also seen yesterday Very rarely offered Brachyplatystoma platynemum With a hefty price tag £345 (R7,500 approx)
