That might be the case, but what are the implications of this thread to that process?
Him saying it's interesting could mean either that they value our interest and input and want to make it easier for us to keep previously illegal shrimp, OR it could mean that he thinks we're all criminals and is going to make it impossible for us to ever keep freshwater shrimp legally.

So which is it?

 

for the sake of argument, i wonder if they are still monitoring all aspects of these fauna in relation to the fact that a new blacklist has been drafted to take effect, its almost a pointless effort regulating something that is on its way to legal is it not?

(yes yes i know the need still exists till its legalized to ensure no exploits take place, but on average, the need to monitor those STILL on the new list would be higher priority in my opinion)

 

Its just a small division of Cape Nature. And about this, why should we bother anymore it will be legal next year?
The fact is that its still illegal at the moment, thats the law. And to go against the law itself is an infringement on the constitution.
Why take the risk?
If people so blazé about the date why cant they just wait?

guys, this is starting to go off the rails...

my initial comment was for consideration that would allow for everyone here to discuss the care and maintenance requirements of these animals for when they do become legal next year and not to promote any illegal trade and "illegal trade" would cover the issue of collecting locally found species.

this is a very interesting aquatic creature that lots of us here want to have and need to learn about from now so we can be ready to provide the right conditions for them when they become legal... so please can we get back to the topic of maintenance and care of aquatic shrimp.

 

Aah, but if it's already in draft form and it's going to be legal next year, then it can be argued that the "charges" are null and void because you can't be prosecuted for something that's now legal.

But what exactly is your stance on hobbyists keeping freshwater inverts?

 

This tread has gotten out of hand now and I think it should be closed till such time when we are able to keep shrimp legally. this thread is only going to start fights now.... expecially when the word terrorist is brought into play.....

well its well documented on all international forums that the best form of algae control is the amano shrimp , and the so called new way to fight algae

 

Personally, I can't wait to get amano shrimp... And I will try damned hard to breed them. From what I hear, they will lay eggs in fresh water, then the eggs need to be transferred to full strength sea water in order for the plank-tonic stage shrimp to mature, and when they start maturing, they need to be gradually brought back to fresh water...

But then I also want the blues, reds greens and white shrimps... CRS, Bee, Bumblebee, tiger, etc...

A bluetiger is over R500 a single shrimp! But wow they are nice!

 

R500 for a single shrimp!?!? They must be super difficult to breed for that price, those are unfortunately some of my favourites

 

Well its $200 for 40 blue tigers, plus then probably like $90 shipping, then all that divided by however many survive. That will give you an idea of their cost.
The other thing is that blue tiger spawns are not wholly blue, some come out what they call 'blonde'. So they're a difficult one. As Henk said, be careful of the ETA of the new blacklist, we all have experience with South African deadlines, they are often slightly delayed. This is due to the volumes of admin etc that need to be done. So I think we shouldn't make any bets that it'll be done in March. But then again sometimes we can be pleasantly surprised!
