    Yes still breeding but slowed things down for now as I'm busy converting to a parasite free fish room. Lots of work and planning but should be done and dusted come middle next year or so.

    Been busy trying to survive this covid-crap. Besides, I just get myself in trouble on social media platforms, as you know I don't handle argument escalation well and say hardcore things out of frustration that I regret later.

    I need the extra resources to focus on my discus going forward, by mid next year I want nothing in my fishroom except parafree discus so I can breed with peace at mind. The flagellates had a go at my discus again during lockdown. Got everything under control eventually but the expense and stress of treating my tanks almost on a yearly basis is hurting me financially and becoming a huge burden to my breeding en-devours. EVERY autumn now the past 2 years they get sick and I miss out on the winter breeding season while nursing them back to health, treating these big systems is very expensive, especially when the weather is cooler in autumn when you need to pre heat the wc water.

    Do you know what ray this is? It was given to me as a leopoldi but I think it might be a hybrid. Also is R4500 to expensive? I really don't know what they cost on the private market.

    Yup.....once the flagellates become a problem, it's not enjoyable keeping Discus.:(

    But maybe get rid of the Discus, and keep the Ray ?

    It's so horrible, everything goes so well then BAM! flagellates everywhere.

    Nah, discus is my preferred struggle:lol: once everything is bleached and cycled up things will be enjoyable again. Ugggg the tedious wait for the N cycle is the only thing I'm not looking forward too, its going to take months...

    @BoelderBeestie ,

    Hahha i know you can get cheeky... thats when you get the PM!!

    Jokes aside..
    Im sorry about all the drama and heartache with the discus
    You say they get it every year in Autumn... sorry if this is a blonde question.
    Why do they get it every years after you have treated and they all healthy again and i assume you not adding new ones?
    Is it because there are always flagellates that stay dormant on them ?

    I know your real passion has always been the discus, wish you all the best

    Yes, the little ray looks like a hybrid but she does carry a lot of Leopoldi genes and she is very very nice
    Between R4000.00 and R4500.00 is very fair as i see the motoro hybrids being sold for that and even a it more here

    @MariaS

    Can you please close this thread.

    Yes the flagellates are always present, its not that they are dormant, they are just in to low numbers to cause the fish discomfort. They cause problems when the fish are stressed. I let my water temp go down a little with the colder weather each autumn to induce spawning but the last few years they just got a flagellate problem when that happens. It's either the lower temp stressing the fish or just bad luck with some coincidence thrown in the mix. Every April-May like clock work.
