I converted my 30cm nano to a planted tank over the weekend.
All looks well, Mr Betta is happy, water is clear, plants (two kinds of java fern and anubias nana) seem OK (so far!).

tank is kept at +-26 deg and has a small internal filter. Light comes from a small desk lamp with a 'daylight' energy saver lamp. at the moment the tank is lit for 12+ hours (mostly because I dont have a timer yet). Substrate is fine red jasper gravel.

I added a little bit of sera florena just to boost the plants.

Driftwood was soaked/cured for two weeks before being added to the tank.

Last night I noticed there was 'stuff' on the driftwood. it looks like a vaguely opaque, colorless 'slime', like a halo around the wood. it's only on the wood, not the rocks or plants or glass.

what IS that? and how do I get rid of it?
can get pics tonight if that would help?

my Betta is flaring at it. LOL! but then again he spent the first hour in his newly decorated house flaring at everything. the rocks, the gravel, the plants. they're such amusing fish :)

It's a harmless fungis, should go away on it's own after a few weeks.

I've had it too. Looks sorta like (pardon me) snot. Don't know exactly what it is, maybe some sort of algae?
It will 'flake' off in a couple of days, and disappear, its not likely to come back.
Sometimes the fish eat it, so it looks yucky, but it's not harmful.

Sounds exactly the same as to what i have, took out the wood and scrubbed it, but it has come back to will be scrubbing the wood again and doing a water change. This stuff spreads quickly as well.

Don't worry about scrubbing, it won't help. Just leave it alone and it will go away on its own soon enough. It may well spread to the rocks and other stuff in the tank. It looks gross, but it's only temporary!

My experience, scrubbing it made it worse, and lasts longer. If you ignore it and let it run its course, itll be.gone in a few weeks
